Taos Yes or No
 

My husband and I will be in New Mexico from Feb 19-26th My question is, we are spending three days in Santa Fe, should we spend a night in Taos or travel from Santa Fe to see Taos? Any suggestions as to where to stay in either city would be welcomed.

Taos is more of what Santa Fe used to be but frankly I've not been in awhile and I've heard some say that it's also getting commercial. Regardless, it is interesting. The Taos Inn is a great location and funky in that New Mexico nowhere-else way. We had buffalo steak in the restaurant. The Millicent Rogers Museum holds some of the finest collections of local indigenous arts, jewelry, and crafts that you will find anywhere in NM. It alone is worth the trip. And the view from the road over the gorge. And the Taos Pueblo.

So definitely go and spend one night.

you can drive to taos in a.m. on the high road through truchas, have lunch and shop or visit taos pueblo, then drive back to santa fe for dinner on the main highway through espaniola. there is more to do in santa fe.

We've done the day drive several times. Like Taos but you only have a few days so if it were me, I would day trip and stay in Santa Fe. Great galleries in Taos. Still haven't found great food, though (along the lines of Geronimo or Santa Cafe in Santa Fe). Maybe someone will post a few suggestions.

Lots of older threads on where to stay in Santa Fe. Don't know what your price range is so hard to suggest. For plaza locations:
Cheap: Garrett's Desert Inn (around$100)
Midrange: Inn at Lorreto, Governor's Inn, La Fonda.
Expensive: Inn of the Anasazi, Eldorado Hotel

These are only a few but they are close to the plaza so you could walk from your hotel.

(If you're a foodie you must go to Geronimo on Canyon Road!) Planning our trip in February as well! Haven't been since Oct and having withdrawls!

Thanks for the advise. I've decided to stay in Santa Fe and take a day trip to Taos. Been reading alot about the area. Also found a hotel to stay in.

There are great restaurants in Taos:
Joseph's Table right on the square and mentioned in Gourmet Magazine, the restaurant at the Monte Sagrado Resort (both very expensive), Momentitos de la Vida in Arroyo Seco, Antonio's, Orlando's and the restaurant at the Taos Inn, mentioned by someone else here.

Oops, forgot Trading Post on the south side of town, near Ranchos de Taos.
