taos, o'keefe, los alamos, hippies

Hi All,

I am going to be in Taos from July 3th- July 10th for R&R&R (rest, research and riting). I'm working on a novel which is partially set in the area. I would like to know if anyone can give me tips on any of the following: 1) tours of Los Alamos National Laboratory, atom-bomb related museums, etc.; 2) New Buffalo commune or the Hog Farm (and other hippie ruins); 3) DH Lawrence Ranch; 4) Mabel Dodge Luhan House; 4) Georgia O'Keefe museum.

Thanks.

For obvious reasons, I dont believe there are tours of Los Alamos but they do have a museum: The Bradbury - http://www.lanl.gov/museum/

There is also a museum in Albuquerque -

Georgia O'Keefe -

Hope this helps...

The Okeefe Museum is in Santa Fe. Are you thinking of her ranch, perhaps? I was surprised at how small the art museum was. It was showing a lot of her more obscure works and sketches, and at the time of our visit some correspondence she wrote to a friend.

Perhaps make a stop in Madrid. An old mining town that became a ghost town, is now home to quite a variety of characters. Take Turquoise Trail to or from Santa Fe to ABQ.

Mabel Dodge Luhan house is off Morada Lane in Taos and is usually open but contact them directly to be sure. The DH Lawrence Ranch is on what is referred to as the Enchanted Circle drive and is north of Taos, around Questa. I believe it is currently owned by the Univ of NM. Years ago, I just showed up and was able to see the site where his ashes are buried but was not able to go into the house. There are people around from the New Buffalo/Hog Farm days -- do a google search and see what you come up with. I know someone from those days who lives in Santa Fe. The Museum in Los Alamos is the Bradbury, I believe, if you wish to do a search to find out hours, etc.

Love Taos and think that is really cool what you are doing..
Can you find out what the Taos hum is all about?
Maybe work it in your novel..
Best to you!
