Taos (2 days too much?)
 

Hi everyone. I read somewhere here that 2 days in Taos is too much. We're going during this Thanksgiving weekend. We'll be staying at the Taos Inn. Any suggestions? Thoughts? If ski season indeeds starts on the 24th, we had planned to do a day of skiing. Any input is welcome. Many thanks.

p.s. It's a couple in early 30's who will be going and I'm an art lover.

You need a 1/2 day for the Taos Pueblo, if it is open to visitors during your stay, and at least a 1/2 day to see some galleries, old town, the plaza--being an art lover, you could fill up the time even if you don't do a day's skiing.

oops, forgot to mention that there are nice places to see scenery (for example,the gorge)nearby.

I don't think so. I think Sylvia has it about right. It's a good half day at the Pueblo and at least half a day at the town -- shops, etc -- depending on how much you linger, if you stop for lunch, etc.

I don't think two days is too much, especially if one is spent skiing. It's pretty country around Taos, and Southwestern art shops everywhere (some is tacky, but other is unique and authentic).

I actually, typically stay in Taos rather than Santa Fe. It's a little more relaxed & a little more inexpensive. It's a great place to not do much of anything. The Pueblo is wonderful & I usually go for a massage while I'm there as well, after I've done some hiking.

By the way, if the Pueblo is open, many sell their pottery, art, jewelry etc. there; you can find very traditional to modern, individual wares, in a wide price range.

Because the pueblo sometimes is closed of funerals etc, I would suggest going to the on your first full day.

Early am will be less crowded and better for photo ops.
