Tanglewood in summer
 

anyone have suggestion for moderately-priced B&B that's walking distance to Tanglewood for Summer 2006? Also, I've heard staying in Great Barrington is nicer than staying in Lenox, even though couldn't walk to Tanglewood. Any input?

Not sure what you would call "moderately-priced", but doubt you would find that within walking distance to Tanglewood.

Just coordinating tickets with a place in the area to stay is quite the challenge - far in advance. Tickets sell out quickly and lodgings book up quickly (the closer to Tanglewood, the faster).

Also don't know what you mean by "nicer" in Great Barrington (1/2 drive away, plus time to park and get to your seat). You will find rates lower than Lenox or Stockbridge, for example.

There are fabulous lodging resources (you can even check availability online) at the Tanglewood website - also the Lenox and Berkshires websites.

When shopping B&B's, be sure to ask about breakfast, if that is important to you. We gave up on B&B's (mostly due to lack of sound proofing and hot water) because of breakfast restrictions. Some serve breakfast only between 7-7:30 (with no adjustment in the bill if you miss it). At many, "breakfast" is really only a limited "continental" spread. (Worst was a stingy, even with the coffee "continental" spread, while we could smell bacon and eggs being prepared for the owners.)

Anyway, because the season is short (only four weeks), the venue is relatively small, and lodging is limited (mostly B&B's and small country inns nearby), coordinating a visit is quite the challenge, so it's great that you're starting right now.

Whatever you do, it is smart that you are looking this early. By Spring, everything is booked during July & Aug.
It depends on what you want as far as towns. Lenox is close and lovely, Great Barrington is busy and full of shops and restaurants and busy day and night.
I would suggest looking into it online, using the Lenox Chamber of Commerce, etc. You can get an idea of prices that way..
We rented a house in Egremont and that made it much easier to wander the area, during the summer it is really hard to find a decent hotel/motel/B&B anywhere!

"Tickets sell out quickly" Tickets to the shed sell quickly, but tickets for the lawn are always available. Depends on which you prefer.

Love Lenox and Tanglewood. I used to live in CT and would go up 3 o4 times in the summer.

Season is from July 1 to Labor day...about 8 weeks. Tickets go on sale in March ususally. You can check their website.

I say stay in Lenox. You can walk to Tanlgewood from the center of Lenox. It is about a mile and a beautiful walk it is.

Plenty of inns and restaurants in Lenox. In fact we spent a week there on vacation a few summers ago. Most of the inns will require a 2 night stay on weekends and if it is a holiday they will want 3 nights. Start checking now. We stayed at 7 gable inn or something like that. They even had a nice pool and you could walk to all the restaurants.
