Tampa Bay beaches

We are going to Tampa at the end of April and are planning on a couple days at the beach. Does anyone know the best beach to go to? How is Treasure Island? Redington Beach? Is the water warm, does it tend to be crowded, is it safe there?
Has anyone stayed at the Island Inn Beach Resort on Treasure Island?
Thanks!!

I grew up in St.Petersburg and would lean more towards St. Pete Beach or Pass-a-grill. Treasure Island is fine but it is so wide that it is a chore to get to the water. The water in Treasure Island and in Redington is fine but it is nicer along the above two areas. Madeira Beach is along that stretch as well. My Mom is a native and was in the water today so it is warm. I find St. Pete Beach a much better walking beach too. Just my opinion.

Safe from what dear? Jellyfish, UV rays, sand in you suit, thunder storms, Austrailian pine burrs in your feet, hot sand burning your feet, pelicans, beach parking fines, warm beer, no sunscreen, kids kicking sand on you?

Thanks for the info!! You're right, Contiki, I should have been more specific. I'm thinking about creatures in the water.... as well as my daughters (aged 11 and 13) walking around by themselves. does treasure island tend to be crowded? rowdy?
Thanks!!

I found Clearwater to be the best beach, but a little crowded and a bit too expensive.

Clearwater Beach attracts hordes of underage juvenile delinquents after dark.
