Talkeetna Flightseeing: Any Recommendations?

We'll be in Alaska for the first time in late August and would like to flightsee out of Talkeetna. Does anyone have an opinion on either K2 Aviation or Talkeetna Aero Services? Or any other options? Also, is the glacier landing worth it or is it better to fly to the summit?

We'll be there the first week in August and booked with Talkeetnaair. We are planning on doing a glacier landing. Obviously, we haven't done this yet, but this itinerary and company came with glowing reviews from a friend who did this last summer. Have fun!

I have flown with all the above companies. The only operator for the summit flight is Talkeetna Aero, of which I have flown with the most. It depends on your flying experience too, if you haven't been in a ski plane. But consider getting toursaver coupons, perhaps and do the summit- superior in my opinion over all the rest. Nothing beats flying over and looking down- close onto McKinley. :) The glacier landing ends up like walking in snow, I live in central NY- plenty here. :) For clairfication it is Talkeetna Air Taxi.

i don't recall the company used, we circled tthe peak, it was great, we flew over summerbase camp where the climbs up the mountain start. i guess landing would be cool, but later that week we hiked matanuska glacier so i'm happy!.... loved the plane ride

We went with K2 Aviation in 2002 and they did the summit flight. I checked their web site (www.flyk2.com) and they still offer it. They have about 4 different flights you can take. We did the summit flight, which was great. We also wanted to do a glacier landing flight but they were all booked solid.

All of the operators do a good job. I've never heard anything bad about any of them. You will want to make reservations in advanced and take your chances with the weather, these are very popular flights.

Good Luck and Enjoy!

We used the toursaver coupon and did the summit flight--excellent! We got to know a few locals while in Talkeetna, and it seems they all speak highest of K-2. But since we saved $205 with the coupon, and couldn't have been more pleased with our female summit pilot, Erica, I can strongly recommend that flight.

Enjoy! Alaska is not to be missed!
