Taking 'Tween To Myrtle Beach ...

DH & I would normally not go to MB, but we took our DGD a couple of years ago, stayed at Sea Watch (northern, more residential part of MB) for a week. She loved it, and wants to go back, especially to visit Medieval Times! She is now almost 13, and I want to stay at a little more upscale place but still want good water facilities for her to enjoy. Am currently booked at Dunes Village for four nights the end of August, but am hearing that their water actitivities may be a little juvenile for her. Any recommendations for places to stay from some of you who have taken tweens/teens there? (We enjoy going to Broadway at the Beach for Margaritaville and the aquarium.) Thanks so much!

It's been a few years since we've stayed here: http://www.myrtlebeachseamist.com/
And you may want to be a bit more patient

norrisken, you said "And you may want to be a bit more patient"

Excuse me? :?

You posted a question and in less than 24hrs you topped it twice. Some folks consider that rude and impatient. And many will not answer you.

norrisken, I hope you'll refrain from opening my posts in the future. I don't believe *I* was the one who was in any way rude in this case. Many people top their posts on this forum ... get over it.

No way is Dunes Village going to be too juvenile for a 13 year old!! She will love it. Your biggest problem may be getting her out of it!! There's a new zip line across the water at BATB that kids her age love! The new boardwalk is beautiful...check it out while your here!

I live in the Capital of Courtesy. Topping a post is not rude. Being ugly to others IS rude.

Missy3, thanks so much for the info on Dunes Village! That zip line sounds like a blast ... I had never heard of that. What restaurants would you recommend that are nearby there, if you remember? One night, we'll eat at Medieval Times, another at Margaritaville ... but there's a couple of nights we haven't planned. What's the best seafood or Italian place in that area? My GD loves calamari, and she loves pasta! :) Thanks again!

I'm not going to apologize for my post. What I said stands. If you do repeated ttt in a short time there are people on the forums who will not reply to a post. When I saw your post it had not had any responses after three days and my first thought was it was being ignored. I posted a link to a place we have stayed at in the past and enjoyed. Then I added the part about topping as a piece of advice to a Fodorite friend. I guess I'm a bit surprised at the way you reacted. BTW I'm typing this while sitting in MB. I'm a very nice person and would be willing to check out a place for you while I'm here.

norrisken, I'm not looking for an apology, and I have none to make. Myrtle Beach does not get a lot of discussion on this forum so I wasn't surprised at lack of responses ... I didn't want my post dropping into the deep, therefore, I topped it, as I usually do in that situation. In fact, many times, other Fodorites will top a post for you so I guess we each have our own way of doing things ... You have a good day.

Missy3, I believe you may have talked me into staying with Dunes. How long did you stay there, and with what age kids if you don't mind my asking? Thanks again ...

Missy3 Jul 31st, 2010 08:21 AM

I live here and had friends staying at the Dunes. They invited me and my grandson over to play with their kids in the waterpark there. There is a lazy river, waterslides, hot tubs, etc. Huge place!

As for seafood we like the Conch Cafe in Garden City and several places in Murrell's Inlet. If you don't mind driving out to Calabash, there's several there. Ella's comes to mind.

Italian..I like Travinia at the Market Common and for lunch Landolfi's in Pawleys Island. Carrabba's is always good too.

We seldom go to the many seafood buffets that are here...but they are not bad, just get very crowded this time of year. If we do go we get there early.

You can google Market Common and see what's going on there for kids...always something in the summer. Music, food, etc.

The Palace Theater has several shows for kids now. $10 for kids. Le Grande Cirque is always a good choice.

The zip line at Broadway does look fun. It's $20.00 over the water and back. Too old for that!! If I can think of anything else I'll add it.

Thanks a bunch, Missy3. I'm going to print out your suggestions so I'll have them for this and any future trips. If you think of anything else, please post it! :)
