Taking my new knee and new hiking boots to Moab
 

We have booked 5 nights in Moab in April to try out my new knee. We were there several years ago for two nights and swore we would return. I am looking for suggestions for hiking trails 4 to 6 miles moderate. Will only have a rental car, not 4x4, so must be accessible. Especially in Needles or anywhere you can suggest. We love slot canyons.
Any suggestions would be much appreciated, thoughts of this trip is what kept me going during rehab.

Break in all boots at home BEFORE you start hiking.

I haven't been to the Needles so can't help you there.

Arches NP. Fiery Furnace ranger-led hike, Delicate Arch for sunset. Wlak around the Windows section.

Not in a park but near Moab Fisher Towrs. Very scenic little hike.

We hiked to Chesler Park in the Needles District. We went for about 6 miles round trip, but you can make it longer or shorter. Here's a link to my blog about the hike and others in the Moab area.

As long as you've been doing the required physical work you should be fine with the new knee.

I had a hip replacement and went on three trips within a year all requiring a lot of walking and hikes in Yellowstone and Utah.

You might try the Morning Glory Arch hike, just east of town up Negro Bill Canyon, off of Hwy 128. Also the hike to Corona Arch is gorgeous -- no slots, but great expanses of slickrock and Corona Arch at the end, which is large enough that someone once flew a small plane through it, apparently. This is off the Potash Road (Hwy 279.) Have fun!

In early November my DW with her new knee hiked out to Delicate Arch. She also hiked through a slot canyon on the way out to Landscape Arch. We had a great time in Arches and Goblin Valley.

WARNING: Cornona Arch is not for people with any fear of heights!!!! It was an awesome hike...but not sure I'd attempt it again and I would not take any young children!

Dark Angel hike that starts at Devils Garden and goes by Landscape Arch in Arches was 5 miles round trip. You hike up on a fin..which was also a little scary, but I'd do that again.

I also like the Grand View hike in the Island in the Sky district of Canyonlands. It's not a hard hike and has some great views.

Utahtea

I agree with utahtea. I went on the Corona Arch hike a couple of years ago. It was less than a year before my hip replacement (I had no pain at that time).

I'd be very careful selecting that hike. The chains going up weren't too bad.

What defeated me was a "side slope" just before the ladder. One slip there and you roll about 5 yards and over a cliff.
