Shopping downtown is MUCH better than shopping uptown. If you go to Soho - on West Brodway and Brodway just south of Houston St, your daughter will love the shopping and so will you!! About a 15 minute walk north west of Soho is the West Village. I am in my late 20's and I had a cousin who was 16 visit me not that long ago. I took them on a little tour of the West Village to see where the Friends apartment building is (on the very corner of Grove St and Bedford). They also film a lot of movies and shows down here - Sex and the City, Spiderman 2, etc. - I pointed out all of those sights and she loved it!! Since you're not familiar with this area, you can get some of these same details on a tour called offered by Foods of NY - I think it's called a Taste of Greenwich Village or something like that. I took it once with some out of town guests. The food that you sample is phenomenal and they show you some cool stuff in the area. Anyway, just a thought.

Bloomingdale's on a Saturday night. It's like an amusement park for young girls who love to shop!
I have gotten some great deals on Broadway and off-Broadway tickets online. Just do a search for sites. My daughter is older than yours but loved Bergdoff-Goodman's (sp?). The prices were so high we treated it like a museum, but it gave us quite an adventure. Oh, she also loved Tiffany's. She still talks about the rings for $350,000. (The more expensive ones weren't on display!) Have a great time. And take lots of pictures of each other! |
Don't stand in line at the TKS booth. Look at www.broadwaybox.com for discounts on shows and get advance tickets or print the discount coupons from broadwaybox or playbill.com (members free section) to take along to the theater box office.
I agree that Blue Men is a great show for your daughter. A real NY experience - and fun for parents too. |
