Takashimaya NYC

Is Takashimaya on 5th Ave open on Sundays?

patty Apr 10th, 2002 05:43 PM

According to their phone message, they are open from 12-5 on Sunday. I love doing special shopping (Christmas, birthdays, etc.) there.

Patty, thank you for calling for me, I really appreciate it! I tried to find information on the internet, but only found descriptions of the store - not the "nitty gritty" details like hours, etc. Thanks again, I'm really anxious to see the store - should be interesting!

It is a beautiful store ..have tea!

Don't just have tea, buy the tea at their shop. The peach tea is the most beautiful. I ask everyone I know who is going to NYC from SF to bring me some.

Oh - having tea sounds like fun! Do they have a little cafe? Is tea served all day, or just at a certain time?

Fran -- definitely make time to have lunch in their tea room downstairs, called the "Tea Box." It is wonderful. They have a large selection of teas, delicious sandwiches and salads, yummy desserts and a different bento box (my favorite) each day. The atmosphere is very soothing -- it is a great de-stressor from shopping on 5th (and we all know how hectic that can be!).

Just wanted to second the vote to have tea at Takashimaya. It's a must. And I am a coffee drinker!
Enjoy, and happy travels...

I "third" the tea suggestion. It's really a nice experience.

Fran Apr 11th, 2002 04:44 PM

I think you have "sold" us on the tea idea! Is the tea room open on Sundays? What is served? Is it a traditional "tea"? Or a little cafe where you order off the menu? Sorry for all the questions, but I am the "group tour guide" and I'm supposed to come up with the answers - ha ha ha!

lisa Apr 11th, 2002 04:51 PM

I'm thinking that the Tea Box is open the same hours as the store.

It is not a "traditional" tea if you're thinking of English tea. You order off the menu -- there are salads, sandwiches, desserts, etc.
