Tahoe/Reno: Best ski deals, lodging?
I'm planning a late March trip with a group of 6-8 refugees from the NW snow drought-- we're experienced advanced skiers, thinking of Squaw, Alpine, Kirkwood, maybe Mt. Rose. Flying into Reno, would like to be car-free; interested in ski shuttles, pref. free. Would consider a Tahoe condo or casino if cost effective. Would stay in Reno somewhere w free ski shuttles. Best deals? Thanks!

Don't think there are any free shuttles from Reno unless they are part of a package from one of the casinos. Tahoe is a bit of a challenge without a car, though certainly doable. In general there are only free shuttles at one end of the lake or the other, though there is transit bus service around the lake and to Truckee. Lodging and condos are fairly spread out, so make sure wherever you stay is reasonably convient to the shuttles you need. We normally drive to Tahoe, so I'm not familiar with the details of the current shuttle situation. Alpine has best lift ticket prices for a major area at $39.

Yes, the Alpine price makes it really attractive--haven't skied there b/f but sounds enjoyable.
What I've found so far:
*Squaw has a $10 RT shuttle from Reno.
*Eldorado in Reno has ski packages w shuttle & tix to Squaw, Mt Rose, Northstar. [Northstar's a little tame, but I understand it's an alternative if winds close Squaw, Alpine.]
* Cal-Neva and Tahoe Biltmore N. shore casinos both have free ski shuttle service in their packages [CalNeva's $79pp/nite midweek w tix. Stayed there once; it's a little worn, but great price].
*Incline Village condos are on a shuttle route, free, I think.
Happy to have any additional suggestions from those of you w local knowledge [& all that snow....]

well, we opted for the $79/night deal at Cal-Neva, includes both room and ski tix + free ski shuttle. We plan to ski Alpine and Squaw, maybe Sugar Bowl. All rooms have lake views. It's what I did a few years ago, and didn't get any suggestions that seemed better. I'm still curious to know if anyone's found anything better....
