Tahoe/Napa

My fiance and I are planning our honeymoon for the end of October. We'd been thinking of the Hyatt Regency at Lake Tahoe for a week but friends have suggested that we add in a trip to Napa as well... We're thinking of a 7 night honeymoon so could do 3 or 4 nights in each place. Any suggestions? We're not familiar with Tahoe OR Napa and aren't even sure if this would be a feasible thing to do!

Thanks in advance!!!

It's absolutely feasible. In fact, you should try to fly to Tahoe from SFO to save much time and stress.

It would work out all right, too, to include a night or two in San Francisco, if you have never been there. It is a gorgeous city for a honeymoon on a first time visit.

You will be able to search this site for many, many tips on traveling to all of these areas.

Congratulations to you both!

Sure it is feasible. But you have left out some details --- like are you flying in? If so, which airport? Are you "wine fanatics" - or only mildly interested? Are you renting a car?

October is shoulder season at Tahoe so nothing will be crowded (too early for skiing and long after the summer hordes have gone home)

Another option could be Tahoe and Yosemite . . . .

We haven't gotten as far as deciding on flights, etc. We were planning to fly to Tahoe from Boston to Reno, will probably rent a car in Reno. We're not wine freaks but definitely enjoy wine and have fun learning more about it. We're not on an unlimited budget but don't want to spend a fortune either.

One thing - if you are relatively budget travelers (me too) you may have ticket shock when you see room rates in the Wine country. Especially in the Fall which is very popular.

Instead of the Hyatt - consider a condo at Tahoe. There are some very nice ones in Incline Village that would cost less for a week than the Hyatt Regency. (of course if you have Hyatt points forget what I just said)

The way Tahoe/Napa works easiest would be open jaw. Fly into Reno and out of San Francisco, Sacramento, or Oakland (or vice versa).

The Hyatt would be a wonderful place to begin a Honeymoon. We just came back from a week there. There is a lovely pool and Spa and great restaurants in Incline, especially the Lone Eagle Grill at the lake. I'd spend at least 4 nights there. It's an easy 45 minute drive from Reno to Incline Village.

If you go to Napa, check out the Yountville Inn, in Yountville (Napa).

Prices may be high in the area, in the fall.
We're going to Boston in Oct. for our fall foliage fix.
