SO agree with the post about children who are allowed to disrupt in public places.

The Rosicrucian Egyptian Museum in San José. The Hollywood Wax Museum in Hollywood. Anyone on one of those walkie-talkie phones reporting their every move to someone on the other end ("Yeah, I'm in the Wax Museum." *static* "So who are you looking at?" *static* "I think it's J-Lo. But it's hot and melting, so it kinda looks like William Shatner in a tube top." *static*).

Dear God, why are people so judgmental? Is it just our nature?

rjw_lgb_ca Aug 19th, 2003 01:17 PM

Of course. If people didn't judge other places to be worthy of visiting, this website would be pretty damn pointless, wouldn't it?!?

OMG, i LOVE you people! Reading this board has made my day. Kinda tells you what kind of day i've had :(

RJ, the vision of ole billy shatner in a tube top is hilarious! Altho not really before dinner...

Great point, rjw!

It's healthy to let off a little steam, right? A few weeks ago I posted a partial list of places I wasn't fond of, and some people really got bent of out of shape. Others replied that they had no places they didn't like - which I found incredible...and enviable! I wish I would like everywhere I went. Personally, I think it's better to read a negative post here and there. How boring and helpful would this place be if someone asked a question about Place X and everyone replied, "Oh, I liked it", "Oh, yeah, it was fine", etc. I like to read everyone's opinions, good and bad.

Grasshopper, Now WHO would do such a thing!? Ar ar (sorry, couldn't hold it back :D)

Oh ellen...

"Stardate 103-25677. The transporter malfunction has sent me off to a strange, musty prison or cage of some sort. I'm paralyzed and on display in a wig and Versace dress. The Matter Reassembly parameters were especially distorted in this mishap, since I've never seen my ass this big. Not even in the third season."

The ultimate "travel tacky" is boardwalk beaches: with tattoo parlors, pin-ball arcades, and pizza joints.

gypsy Aug 19th, 2003 05:34 PM

oh-h-h, i love those places!

clarkgriswold Aug 19th, 2003 10:02 PM

Massachusetts churches still passing the plate after offering $55 million to sex-abuse victims of priests.

clarkgriswold Aug 19th, 2003 10:09 PM

Las Vegas hotels leaving their huge front doorways wide open all day in 120 degree heat, then having the nerve to add on a $3.50 per day "energy surcharge' to each room.

Car rental companies adding 40 percent in surcharges and fees to the "rental rate".

Airline security personnel opening up Grandma Moses' suitcase and pulling out the Depends for everyone in line to see.

Anyone who answers the phone with "How may I help you????"

SUV's with one occupant.

Referring to people as "trash". We have really become a throw-away society, haven't we?

cfc Aug 20th, 2003 05:13 AM

I know this is probably pretty picky, but I really hate the word "eats" when people use it to mean dining, food or restaurants, as in "good eats." It just conjures up an image of pigs at a trough to me. I know there's a whole series of guidebooks with that in the title and people use it here all the time, but it always bothers me. You get "good eats" at a diner, maybe, or a good local down-home cafe, but a 4-star restaurant shouldn't be where you get "good eats."

luv2fly Aug 20th, 2003 05:30 AM

Men who are too cheap to buy pair of shorts and where their short swimming trunks instead...especially the European tourists here in NYC.

ellen_griswold Aug 20th, 2003 05:32 AM

omg RJ, thats hilarious!!!! ROTFLOL

For some reason, the vision of Liberace comes to mind! LOL Altho there was something so endearing about him .... Hey, maybe he and billy-boy were separated at birth??!! LOL

rjw_lgb_ca Aug 20th, 2003 06:51 AM

Ellen, you have to picture it with that faux-Shakespearean soliloquy voice that he used for the voiceovers to get the full effect.

Oh, we're having fun over on the California tour thread now!! I think the poster(s) from San José is (are) about to lose it. And that's always entertaining. Thanks for the kind words, as always. And when you are next in southern CA, yeah, we could maybe go for drinks at the Polo Lounge or something!

jor Aug 20th, 2003 10:50 AM

Stores in the lakes area where we visit that say LIVE BAIT and RESTAURANT on the same sign.

rjw_lgb_ca Aug 20th, 2003 10:54 AM

How about someone driving a Lincoln Navigator with a Sierra Club bumper sticker? Or a Cadillac sedan with a thick padded vinyl roof?

Fashion Police: How about a woman wearing fishnet stockings and satin hot pants in broad daylight? I see someone walking around the Santa Monica Farmers Market dressed like that every week-- could she be that confused about where Hollywood and Vine is...?!
