syracuse to NYC

Im trying to figure out if a one-day trip to NYC is possible from Syracuse - allowing for some sight seeing.

the drive from syracuse to nyc is probably going to take around 4 hrs, more if there is traffic, and most of the time, there will be traffic. how about take greyhound, drops u off on 42nd st and 8th ave, which is 1 block from time square, u can tour around midtown manhattan, u'll be able to do alot if u start ur trip REALLY early.

The only way to do it would be to fly. The flight is about 1 1/2 hrs. US Airways has a webfare of $121/person roundtrip if you can leave at 6 or 7 am and would have to return by 6:30pm. The flights are in and out of La Guardia which is quite close to NY--only a 30-40 min cab ride away. If the times work for you, you could have a nice day.

So maybe an overnight trip might make it more worthwhile? Is the drive scenic, at the very least, from Syracuse? What about driving to Hoboken and taking the train in from there to avoid dealing with Manhattan traffic?

Why don't you give us more background. I thought the flying idea was a good one unless there's a whole slew of you. With the price of gas and parking fees, $121 is a relative bargain. I'd say you could make the drive scenic but it would take longer and you'd want to stop along the way.

There will be 3 of us and we're flying in from the westcoast - flying again for an overnight trip doesn't really appeal to me. If the drive is somewhat scenic, I don't mind driving. An overnight trip sound like it would be more feasible.

nothign scenic or to stop over, i drive that path from NYC to Binghamton every 2 weeks, believe me, nothing scenic for you to stop over. better off hurry to NYC, there's more to see and do there than on the road. having to drive there every 2 weeks, i really dont mind the drive, so I would choose to drive rather than fly and spend $121 pp, dont forget the cab fares to and from the airport, it's about $35 one way to the city from La Guardia. and 1-2 hrs check in time at the airport. yes, the best thing to do is to stay overnight.

JetBlue flies from Syracuse to JFK 3 times a day, flight time is about an hour and a oneway ticket can USUALLY be bought for $49 (+ tax). The first flight out is around 6 AM, the last flight back to Syracuse leaves JFK at 10:50 PM.

Oh, you figure about 4 1/2 hours to drive, and it's not very exciting as far as sightseeing.

And yes, there is Greyhound service that leaves as early as 3 AM (!) on weekends which would have you into the city around 7-7:30 if on schedule. There are later buses too . . . a 7-day advance purchase ticket is $78 round trip.
