Swine flu and Disney World?

Does anyone have any facts or news on the interplay between the swine flu issue and the advisability of visiting Disney World in the next couple of months?

Disney has already started taking precautions!

Funny cartoon!!!

I had heard two people from Mexico came to Disney World and they both ended up sick and in the hospital. Don't know if this is true or not. We have plans for Disney World in 2 weeks and think we are cancelling out.

Funny cartoon!

We are going to Disney one day next week.
We are not cancelling. I don't see how it's any different than go to other public places.
We can't wrap ourselves in a bubble.

Flu season ends as the weather warms up. The flu virus does not survive well in high humidity and heat. Consequently, Orlando is not likely to be the site of a massive flu outbreak over the next few months. 36,000 people die in the US every year from flu viruses. So far, the Swine flu is a lot of media hype. (I'm not saying it won't turn into a pandemic but the odds just aren't that great) You can find much information about the flu virus on the internet.

Noone in the US has died from this yet (the only fatality in the US was actually a child who came from Mexico for medical treatment). Thousands die every year from the regular flu.
I think cancelling a trip (except a trip to Mexico) would be silly.

I will add that I am flying to Orlando tomorrow with my sister and my baby (aged 10 months).

Well, I called down there to talk to Mickey about it and he said "hak, hak, hak, ah choo, wipe wipe. Why do you ask?!"

I don't see a trip to disney as any different than going to any other public place, ball game or anything else. I have plans to fly out of Orlando on Monday and I'm not avoiding the airport or enclosed plane regarldess what the VP says.

Like the cartoon.

We were at Disney right before the story broke about the swine flu. The parks were extremely crowded and it kind of freaked us out thinking about how many people touch for instance the bars that come down on the rides, turnstiles, etc.

I brought along a small hand sanitizer which we used after every single ride. I wouldn't cancel the trip.

"" had heard two people from Mexico came to Disney World and they both ended up sick and in the hospital. Don't know if this is true or not.""

Spreading untrue rumors about Disney hurts people and their incomes.

That was just ignorant.

You are no more likely to get H1B1 from Disney than you are your own neighborhood.

Just be vigilant about washing your hands and you'll be fine.

You know the drill - wash your hands, avoid touching surfaces such as railings where a lot of hands have gone before you, wear a mask if you're really freaked. Avoid salad bars and public water fountains. Etc etc etc

Unfortunately, things like Purell aren't as effective against viruses as you'd think - soap and warm water are better, but either one is better than nothing.
