swap meets - maui
I'd love to go to a swap meet/craft sale in Maui however I see so many advertised - there's one close to the airport, then daily ones in Kihei and Lahaina for example. Is there one that is superior to the others because I obviously don't want to spend a ton of time doing this, just once to buy little trinkets, fresh fruit, etc. and to soak up the atmosphere! Thanks

We went to the Kahului swap meet on Wednesday morning. More locals, less tourists. Bought some cute island clothes. Plenty of flowers, musical instruments, and a little of everything. One of the highlights of our trip.

can you remeber exactly how to get there. We tend to get lost in that part of the world Thanks:) We get to go 6 weeks today:):):)

There is a swap meet on Saturdays in Kahului on Puunene Street.(if coming from Lahaina just head toward the airport and take a left on Puunene the entrance is next to the post office. This a odd mix of touristy and local stuff...it was alot of fun. It runs until noon so if you are planning a trip to see Haleakala for the sunrise it works well to combine the two. We had time to see the sunrise...have breakfast and hit the swapmeet before heading back to Lahaina Iao needle on our way back to Lahaina. the fruit at this swap meet was great and the prices were very low.

Cleo-
Panhandle's directions are right. The swap meet was on Wednesdays and Saturdays at the time we went a few years ago. We went to the swap meet and then visited the Iao Needle. (The Iao Valley is one of my favorite places on Maui - a "don't miss".) |

The Kahului Swap Meet on Saturday is the only swap meet, but if you want "craft sales" (and I place that in quotations because at many of these you can find more items made in China than actual local crafts), there is a Farmer's Market/craft sale at the Kahului shopping center on Wed mornings, craft fairs at the Kukui Mall in Kihei Tues-Wed-Sat (?--not sure of exact days anymore, it has changed), and at the Banyan tree in Lahaina on weekends. You can find many of the same items at Kalama Village in Kihei, across from Kalama Park.
