Swamp Tours - are there?

Just wondering if there are swamp tours worth doing. I want to see some alligators!! I also heard that there are tours of the swamp ghettos. Any info.

My 22 year old enjoyed it and said I'd love to take this tour! Sorry I don't have any details for you other then this general advice.

You didn't mention where you will be located, but we did a swamp tour out of New Orleans that was very worthwhile. We saw lots of alligators and other wildlife. I'm sorry but I don't know anything about swamp ghettos.

Recommend the Honey Island Swamp tour in Slidell. What do you mean by a swamp ghetto?

I'm staying in the French Qtr in New Orleans in August. I'm looking to go on a swamp tour to see some alligators, etc. I would also like to see some of the small swamp villages for research purposes for a documentary I may be working on.

I get it - a swamp ghetto is where The Waterboy lived. The Slidell tour showed the gentrification from fish camp buildings to fine brick homes with swimming pools.

Gators? We saw plenty of alligators, snakes, fish, birds and other wildlife on the Honey Island swamp tour. It is a nice way to have a "swamp" experience, just as you'd imagine-- the sun filtering through the spanish moss, hanging from the beautiful cypress trees. (And yes...even saw a few rickety looking houses--think 'Deliverance', the movie.) Take your camera!

We went on the Jean Lafitte (sp?)tour and it was delightful. We saw alligators, birds, and a back woods cabin and had a wonderful guide.

I hate to put a damper on your plans, but a co-worker told me there was something other than Spanish moss hanging from the cypress trees -- snakes!

We took a NO swamp tour with Airboat Adventures a few years ago. If you want alligators, skip it, we only saw one. If you want speed, exhilaration, and the chance to hold a baby alligator and other critters that live in the swamp, this is the one.

There are many many swamp tour operators in the area. Take a regular boat tour, NOT an airboat. You'll see more, and be actually able to hear the guide. The airboats are FAR too noisy!

We went with Capt Nick's Wildlife Safaris out of Lafite and it was really great. We cruised around in a wide, flat bottomed boat - down a wide shipping channel, past some interesting homes right on the water and then off into some narrow swampland. The waterways got narrower and narrower as we went along - moss hanging everywhere, lots of interesting trees, some birds, and a couple alligators swimming around. We got out of the boad and went for a short hike. Then cruised the swamp a bit more and came back to the marina. We were out for the better part of the afternoon.

Another vote for the Honey Island Swamp Tour.

I have to recommend Capt. Arthur. He does airboat tours which can be wild or tame. He can find the alligators day or night (their eyes glow red). airboattours.com 1-800-975-9345 or 985-758-5531 Definatley call ahead, we've driven out to his place just to drop in on a tour and they've been on vacation. There are plently of swamp tours where about 30 people crowd onto a boat. I found the airboat to be a more unique experience.

Honey Island was very pleasant. And we saw Alligators in December which we did not even expect. They were juveniles, but still very scenic trip. Recommend!

Not a swamp tour seeker, but thought you folks might know of a good site for voo doo history in the quarter, saw something about a voo doo house that was the authentic practice a while back, made the mistake of not writting the info down and cant seem to find the posting now, any leads
