Sutton Place Hotel Chicago

I am in the middle of planning a short trip to Chicago for the end of September. Looking at hotels now and I can get a good price on The Sutton Place Hotel. But I have concerns as to it's location. It is off North Rush between Oak and Chestnut.

I have never been to Chicago so have no idea of walking distance from one area to another. We prefer to be in an area where we can walk out our hotel and be amongst shops, restaurants and interesting bars.

While there don't have anything set in stone yet as far as plans. Want to Millennium Park and definitely having dinner at Topolobamblo. Other than that not sure.

Is Sutton Place too far afield? I don't mind paying more to be right in the middle of the action, but would like to keep cost around $200 a night if possible.

Thanks for your help.

I have stayed there on business and pleasure and liked it. There are more convenient hotels, but there are decent places nearby to eat.

Doing some further research I do think I want a more convenient hotel, one closer to Michigan Ave or so.

The Sutton Place is only 2 blocks from the north end of the Mag Mile in a quiet neighborhood that seems miles away from the bustle of the city. The Original Pancake House and Gibson's Steak House are both across the street and there are a number of restaurants within a couple blocks.

The Oak Street shopping district is a block south with upper-end boutiques like Prada, Hermes and Barney's New York.

Millennium Park is about a mile south. You can walk there or walk 1 block east to Lake Shore Drive and catch the Number 151 bus southbound.

As Citylghts says, Sutton Place is close to Mich Ave, and there are tons of restaurants/shops nearby.

Okay, between the helpful responses and the great price I got of $122 a night average I booked Sutton Place. They actually had a lower rate of $115 a night, but I decided to "splurge" for a lake view. Only a differance of $21 total.

Sounds like it is in a great location, hotel reviews are good. And nothing is really that far away. Plus with all the eating we'll be doing, pizza, chicago hot dogs, lunches, dinners and drinks, we will need to be doing a lot of walking to burn off those calories.

And we like to walk, great way to see things.

I have other questions but will ask them in a differant post.

Thanks for your help.
