Sushi in Maui - Wailea

Looking for a really good sushi spot in/near Wailea. Have read about Kinchu and Sansei. Just wondering which one is better or if there is one someone could suggest?

Hi:

We ate at Sansei and the food was spectactular. We went to the one on the West Side, however, so it isn't anywhere near Wailea (took us about 40 minutes from Wailea). The sauce on the calamari appetizer was great. Make sure they know you are there, however, when we went we checked in with the hostess who said it would be 10 minutes for our reservation (we were 15 minutes early). We sat at the bar for 30 minutes and after watching them seat 2 ables of people who walked in after us went back and they had "forgotten us." Free appetizers were gven , but I was still annoyed. the food was yummy and I would go back. We didn't eat at Kinchu.

We love Sansei, haven't been to Kinchu.

If you do a search, or go to their website, Sansei has a very good sushi discount "happy hour", I don't remember the specifics, though.

I believe Sansei has a Kihei location also. They are the best, and not only sushi, but a wide range of Pacific Rim appetizers and entrees. They have a crab & mango appetizer and a panko crusted ahi which are 2die4.

p.s. Sansei has been voted top restaurant in the state of Hawaii in the Zagat survey.

I will 2nd raves for Sansei. We ate at the Kapalua location. The seared ahi coated with panko and served with a wasabi butter sauce was FANTASTIC. I wanted to ask for a spoon!

Amusing story for sofee: The first time we were in Maui, staying at Kapalua Bay, we strolled thru the little mall right outside the entrance to the hotel, noticed this little nondescript Japanese restaurant, thought "Just another Japanese restaurant in a mall," and passed it by. Before our next trip, we checked reviews and discovered what we missed. We made up for it later. BTW, another wonderful (mostly seafood) restaurant in a garden at the edge of the beach in Lahaina is I'o. Incredible food, lovely romantic setting. www.iomaui.com
