superbowl 2004
Does any have any recommendations on which hotels to check out for the superbowl? I will be there for an entire week.

Marriott Sugar Land Town Square

You mean the Super Bowl in Houston?
If you don't have a room now you won't get one on your own. You can book rooms in Austin Tx or budget type places around the outskirts of the city (for inflated rates). Otherwise you'll have to buy a package deal to get a hotel room (either through an agent or alumni association etc). Super Bowls book up virtually everything in town no matter where they're held. |
If I were to be able to get a hotel, am I better off getting one by Reliant Stadium or 10 to 15 minutes away from it?

I don't think you'll have a choice.
Try calling 3 or 4 random hotels with toll free numbers and see what they tell you. My point is that you will almost certainly find that no one has rooms available the night of the Super Bowl, or if you find one it will be an undesirable hotel asking an outrageous rate. In addition to those attending the game, the Super Bowl attracts lots of vendors and support people (who have rooms reserved up to a year in advance) which will usually absorb all the supply. You can almost certainly find a room at a budget type place on the periphery of town. But your options will likely be very limited. |
Gosh, vkb2...take ANY room at this point! Resellers swoop in and snatch up blocks of rooms throughout town, knowing they will be able to sell them as packages later. When the Super Bowl was in Tampa, people were being bused in from Orlando. IMHO you'll be lucky to find anything reasonable within a half hour or more, let alone 10 to 15 minutes.
