Super Shuttle vs. Airlink NYC

I need to go from Newark International to Manhattan and am looking into a shuttle service. I've read a lot of complaints for both Super Shuttle and Airlink NYC but would really appreciate additional input on either service.

Thanks for your time.

NYers avoid most shuttle services because of the many, many multiple stops you may have to sit through while others in the shuttle are dropped at their hotels.

Heading to Newark via van, after my pick-up, the van spent an hour making stops at various hotels in midtown Manhattan, sitting in midday traffic often, before heading to the airport. For the return trip, it was an hour from the time I got into the van at Newark until we actually left the airport while the driver stopped at all terminals trying to fill the van. Granted, this was at 9PM.

Where is your destination in Manhattan? We may be able to suggest some reasonable alternatives.

The Super Shuttle in NYC is VERY unreliable - as well as slow due to it's very nature. It often has people for 6 or 7 hotels and you may drive around in traffic for an hour before getting to yours. Worse - it does the same thing on the return to the airport and there have been reports of people missing flight due to the delay - or the shuttle simply not turning up at all to take them to the airport (apparently extra people get on at earlier stoops so it simple skips later stops).

How many of you are there, how much luggage do you have/can you schlep it yourself and where are you coming from.

I only ever do cab or car service since I'm allergic to luggage on local public transit. but you might be better off getting the subway or a cab to Penn Station and taking the train from there if you don;t want to pay for a car.

If you are two people or more, a car service is preferable to a shared shuttle or bus from Newark airport. But it is double the cost. The best cheaper option is the air train to NJ Transit, but even that is not cheap. But it's best if you are traveling alone.

I'm headed to UES. I would consider taking public transit but I'm traveling alone and have a lot of bags with me. I was also thinking about taking the Coach USA bus to Midtown and then taking a cab.

Coach USA is reliable and stops across the street from Grand Central Station on the east side. From there it is easy to take the subway or catch a taxi.

Since you are heading to the upper east side, geographically you would probably be the last dropped off. If you don't mind chancing the extra time in transit, then give a shuttle a try.

If you have a lot of bags, then it's just not that practical to travel any way but by car service. And given that you are going to the Upper East Side, which is the most difficult part of Manhattan to reach from Newark, I think the extra cost is well worth it in this case. It's going to cost you about $30 more than the combination of bus shuttle and taxi, but it's worth it if you really have more luggage than you can comfortably deal with.

If yo have more than 1 bag there is no way I would try to deal with public transit - just no way to get them up and down the stairs. Taking the coach to Grand Central is possible - but then you need to schlep your bags to the cab line, which may be long or short depending on time of day or weather (5 mins to 25/30 minutes)

Both SS and Airlink are awful - it took me two hours last time I used SS and I had given up on Airlink long ago. They don't match you up geographically buy destination like they once sometimes did.

If oyu have a lot of bags oyu can't maneuver yourself a car service would be the3 best; but if you CAN manage your bags and oyu are coming in at a reasonable hour, the bus is easy and the cab line at GC can be long but it moves quickly. I do it all the time as a single F.

Agree with mztery. Either take a private car service like
dial7.com or carmellimo.com or take the Express Bus to Grand Central (but I wouldn't prepay for it, just buy a ticket when you arrive) and a taxi from there. Where on the UES are you staying?
