Super Bowl 2018 - Minneapolis - Skyway

We are attending the 2018 Super Bowl. I see there is a Skyway system. Is it feasible to think we could walk from the convention center to the stadium? Another random question - realizing that the stadium is enclosed and that we willl not have need for our coats once we get inside - are coat check facilities available within the stadium? Thanks!

>>are coat check facilities available within the stadium?<<

Have you ever seen this outside of luxury box levels, because I sure haven't and I've been to a lot of stadiums. If you're not going to be in a luxury box or exclusive seating level (there are four different "Club level" designations in US Bank Stadium) you can forget it. As for the skyway system - go google it and see when it's open. The hours often vary from building to building. And the Skyway system is geared toward the professionals who work in downtown Minneapolis, whose buildings limit access on weekends (Houston and Dallas have similar element-escaping pathways). The likelihood is it won't be open. But you should read your Gameday Guide to find out.

Looks like you can! https://www.mnsuperbowl.com/media/document/1/skywaywayfindingmap.pdf?ssl=true&inline=true

And here is the skyway website: http://www.skywaymyway.com

US Bank Stadium is NOT attached to the skyway system. You can get within a couple of blocks but that is it and that is thru one of the Hotels which may have it closed off. Sunday is supposed to be very cold. Waiting to get thru security might be interesting. Being an native I would tell you to dress in layers- that you can peel off once you are in. Bulky coats are a pain. Make sure you have a hat, scarf, mittens (not gloves) and warm shoes. The small disposable hand warmers are a god send. And you can just toss them. I couldn't find any info on coat check, but with 60K people there I think a coat check will be chaos. One trick we use is to bring a small kitchen garbage bag that can hold your layers. When you get to the game, shove them all in the bag and stuff under your seat. No worries about wet floors or spilt beers. The first time I saw it I thought it looked like a country hick idea but it works great!

That's genius!! Thanks for the info.

Thanks - I"m hoping that because it's the super bowl that they will work together to have everything open! I willl keep checking.

Thanks for the links!!

Of course the skyways are going to be open, they actually have extended hours as you can see from the map that iowamom linked. There are also volunteers staffing the skyways to help visitors navigate their way around downtown.

As for the coat check, no they never have a coat check per se. For Vikings games, you can check larger backpacks but it's not clear if they will have that policy for the Super Bowl. The website does not mention a bag check but does give guidance on using a clear plastic bag - look under the NFL Clear Bag Policy link. The stadium strongly discourages carrying any bag other than a clear plastic bag for security reasons so that is your best bet to avoid security hassles. As MCHS said, just stuff your layers into those bags once you're in the stadium.

I’m a little curious what the skyway connection directly to the stadium is, it’s labeled “restricted access.” I wonder if it’s something temporary.

”need for our coats”

Don’t wear a coat, unless that’s all you have, too bulky for the small seats.

Thanks - it looked like the skyway was open and connected to the stadium but I'm sure they are going to be very crowded!

You can walk from the convention center but it will be a circuitous route. We always find street parking for Vikings games and walk from there but that won't be an option this week. I would definitely bring a jacket. The skyways might be very crowded, especially as there is only one route to the stadium and the added security, and you may decide to bail and walk on surface streets and access a different entrance. The same for the walk back to your car. Have a hat, mittens and a coat. Dress in layers and just peel off and shove under your seat. It will be in the single digits on Sunday and while those of us from here are accustomed to that if you are not used to the cold it could be quite a shock.

Have a great time!

Super Bowl officials said today that you will need to be outside in order to enter the stadium so I would DEFINITELY wear a parka.

tom_mn Jan 31st, 2018 06:11 PM

I would expect the outside security lines to have portable heaters running when it's so cold because people will be at risk of frostbite, but maybe not. In any event it's going to be an icy, numbing walk after the game to wherever you are going.

Thanks Taitai - was hoping to stay inside but will bring out the Ski gear......we live in FLORIDA!! Do not have much experience with your lower temperatures.

Ezahn177 Feb 1st, 2018 05:26 AM

Tom - heaters would be great!! Hope they do that!

Ezahn177, are you here yet? Gorgeous day today...sunny, brilliant blue sky, a little chilly but not debilitatingly so. Saw this in the City Pages this morning and thought of you. I hope it helps. Not sure where you are parking but this will provide you a good route from any location downtown.
