Super 8 near Times Square?
Anyone stayed at the Super 8 near Times Square recently? Owned by Applecore hotels, the Comfort Inn in Times Square is booked but they offered their Super 8. I am looking for eyewitness comments on the Super 8.

topping question

Help does anyone know?
I haven't stayed at this hotel, so I can't help you there, but this hotel was profiled yesterday in one of the travel magazines I subcribe to and gave it a favorable write-up. Good luck.
Deborah - Can you share the name of the travel magazine? I could get it and look at the profile. Thanks for the input
It was either Frommers Budget Travel or Travel Holiday.

I work in NY & know NOTHING about a Super 8 near Times Square. And "near Times Square" can be a scary thing, it could be on 10th or 11th Aves, in the 50's, which is FAR away from anything you want to see & with no mass transit available. That will mean taxis - you might as well stay in a more central location.
Super 8 is apparently another hotel that was bought by the applecore hotel group renovated and changed into a super 8. The address is 59W 46th st. between 5th & 6th ave. That doesn't seem to far away? is it?
That's a good location and a little bit away from the heavy traffic/noise areas of times sq. Perfectly safe too.
Me again. You can also pull up Super 8's website and the New York hotel is on there. I printed it out myself after I read the article in the magazine and in fact, still have the print out on my desk.
Gee, I work on 45th and 6th and never noticed this hotel! Are you sure that's the address??
If that is the right address and the price is right I would say GRAB IT. That location is great, close to all the theatres, tons of restaurants, Time Square, movie theatres, subways, buses, shopping.

It is also not a far walk up to Central Park, though very cold here right now the park looks kind of magical in a blanket of snow and we are expecting more tomorrow (another 3 -6 inches).

I'll be in the area tonight so will stop by, and post what I see.
I just looked up the website and it actually looks nice! I mean, the room in the photo is simple and not huge, but the lobby looks nice and the location looks great! I did a request for rates from 6/5-6/9 and it was $149 for a room with two beds. They had discounts for AAA and others, too. Not too bad!

Have stayed there twice. Great location
and you can walk anywhere. Parking garage across the street charges just 20.00 for 24 hrs!Make sure to ask for rooms on the 45th street side. Good luck
Question? Why is a room on the 45th street side better? How was the hotel?
Hotel is basic but clean. Rooms on 45st side are larger with king sized beds. Hope this helps.

Hey bbkay:

What did you decide? When I originally told you about the magazine article, I meant to say "recently", not "yesterday", so I don't know if you ever found the review. There are a couple of favorable reviews on tripadvisor.com which I have found useful when I am deciding where to stay when I go away. I thought about staying at this hotel the next time I go to NYC. If you are on a budget, there are also several Best Westerns in midtown. I believe I stayed on one around 55th St. If you go and stay there, let us know how the hotel was.
Thanks for all the advice. I have booked the hotel for 3 nights in June.
Hey bbkay. I see that you have already booked but I just wanted to tell you about the hotel we recently stayed at in NYC. We were there from Dec. 30-Jan 2 for the NYE celebration and stayed at the Ramada New Yorker which was on 34st at either 7th or 8th avenue (right near Macy's, Penn Station, Madison Square Garden). I had read mixed reviews about the place but decided to go ahead with our plans anyway. The hotel was not like the Plaza or anything but it was clean and comfortable. The room was kind of small but it was all we needed because we were rarely in it and we had an absolutely fabulous view of the Empire State Building out of our window. Every morning when we got out of bed, we would look at the ESB just to be sure it wasn't all a dream! Anyway, the total for 3 nights was close to $500. We were within walking distance to everything and had a 24 hour diner right downstairs. Hope you enjoy your trip!

Just curious to know if there's any new info about this Super 8. Thanks.
First of all, thanks to you all, I am now also hooked on Traveladvisor.com
I love the slick way you can check hotel availability on 4 different sites and they also have the "popularity index ranking" which brings me to this question. In the end I will probably book with Priceline for NYC but in the meantime I want to have a back-up booking because we are still 3 months away from travelling. The Super 8 Times Square is ranked #18 and Red Roof on 32nd St is ranked #45 and they are both $129.00. Which would you recommend? Thanks! |
You could possibly do better by bidding on PriceLine.
Lovetotravel2, knowing nothing about these places other than locations (described here) the Super 8 on 45/46 st. off 6th ave is a far better location than Red Roof on 32 st IMO.

I have stayed at Super 8 Time Square twice in the past 8 months, once alone and once with wife and child. I love the location. It is pretty quiet, convenient to sights, transportation, food, groceries, the tourist office, and Broadway. The rooms are basic but not too small, and the service is pretty good. The free breakfast offers fruit, bagels, cereal, doughnuts, and other things. It is really hard to beat for the price.
