Sunset hot spots?

Visiting Oahu, Kauai, and BI in the next few days. Traveling with an avid nature photographer. Any leads on great Sunset/Sunrise locations? Staying in Waikiki, Lihue, and Kona.

Thanks in advance!

I shot a couple of sunsets in Oahu and a sunrise. I also stayed in Waikiki, but one morning I got up very early and drove across the island to Lanikai Beach on the east side (didn't take long, no traffic). It's a gorgeous beach any time of the day. Fortunately, I had scouted it out the day before so knew where to park and how to get out there (the beach does not have a "public parking" area - seems to be for residents only, so I had to park on the street and find one of the walkway beach entrances). But it did make for a pretty stunning sunrise setting.

I shot a sunset at the North Shore, one somewhere else...I don't remember anymore. It's not hard to find good places to shoot a sunset in Oahu especially if you have a car.

Lihue is a great place and you should get some good sunrise shots from the beach, however, when on Kauai for great sunset shots you need to travel to the other side of the island. We have seen some incredible sunsets at Waimea and at the Polihale State Park. On the BI drive from Kona up toward Kawaihea, anywhere along there should be good for sunsets. The most fantastic sunset I have ever seen in my life was drive from Honoka'a to Kawaihea, it was perfect complete with the green flash. Enjoy the islands.

Def Polihale! Also Kekaha.
Salt Ponds provides interesting ones, too.

We've never been ove in non Nov/Dec/Jan mos and look forward to this upcoming June visit to get a whole new perspective on that #ellhole of an island. ;)

you might be able to get some from the Ritz Carlton time shares at the end of the road past the Lihue Marriott over looking Kalapaki/Nawiliwili.

Thanks for the locations!

Now, does anyone know of a good instructional: "go here and shoot this" type book? We had one when we visited the National Parks out west last summer, and it helped us get some excellent shots--told us right where to go, etc. (author was Fitzharris)

Thanks again!
