Sunset @ Haleakala should we
dress for cold(sweaters, hooded sweatshirts) or for wet/damp conditions? Hooded rainjacket? Can't wait...we leave on Thursday!
|
Oops..That should be sunrise@Haleakala!
|
Yes.
Dress for cold AND wet conditions. |
We were there mid-day on a sunny day and it was still COLD.
|
The sunrise there is great.
It acually snows on Haleakala on occasion. so be prepared for wind and cold. Borrow blankets from the hotel. I'm a Minnesotan and still got cold on Haleakala. |
Believe them when they say dress warm. Take ALL the blankets off the bed!! We have done this 3 times and it still amazes us that we can be so warm with no coats down below and wham, in just 10,000 feet!! After the sun comes up and you warm up, its not bad up there and the bike ride down is a blast too.

WHY don't you guys take "Hot Hands" and "Thera Care" heat packs with you to keep warm??? (As well as the warm covers!) Belle.
|
Geez,should I take thermal underwear,too?
|
Dressing in layers are a great idea...LOL
If that means thermal...then so be it. Depends on how you deal with cold weather. If you are not from a northern state, you will freeze. I was there at 7:30 this past Friday morning. It was 45 degrees. The wind made it feel like 30. Would have loved a face mask. At the bottom of the mountain (after breakfast)...the temperature was 82. Go figure. |
