Sunday morning in NYC
We're staying in the Times Square area because this is, primarily, a theater weekend. We'll be leaving Manhattan around 1:30-2:00 Sunday to go to a concert in Queens.
We're looking for something to do Sunday morning; many museums seem to open at 11. I was thinkig about a self-guided walking tour of Greenwich Village or wandering around the Chelsea Market. Any other ideas? |
For museums: the Met opens at 9:30. Another interesting walk -- SoHo - and get ahold of the AIA guide book with lots of info about the cast iron buildings in the area.
|
Sunday morning is a good time also for a self guided tour around the Lower East Side.
|
Thanks for your responses.
We've spent time at the Met and the LES on prevous trips--I should have been more clear about that. The AIA guide book sounds interesting. |
Museum of Jewish Heritage opens at 10. they have some wonderful docent led tours.
|
Do what New Yorkers do: got to Chelsea or UWS for brunch, got on a walk up Central Park West, go to church, go on a walk of the High Line
|
The High Line sounds very appealing--we haven't been there, and thought we could combine it with the Chelsea Market.
We're not Christian, so church isn't really an option. Somehow, I missed the wandering a neighborhood gene--it always seems so aimless to me and I keep feeling like I'm missing something! The Museum of Jewish heritage is a place I'll research. The Museum of the American Indian may be not too far away, and we might be able to visit both. When I was a NYer, on Sunday morning I'd read the Times in my PJs and do the laundry! |

That's what I'd do even as a visitor (minus the PJs and laundry) :-) |
sf7307 - you read the Times nekkid? I think that is against a rule or something! :o)
|
Deb - very good!
|
Ha Ha!
I'd get dressed (first), buy the Times, find a nice cafe, and eat and read until I had to leave for the airport LOL. |
I'm so bad at relaxing--it's definitely a character flaw of mine that sitting around reading the paper seems like wasting time when I'm in an exciting city. cpg & sf7307, maybe I should find a WW meeting!

How the Times got into my pajamas, I'll never know? (Sorry Groucho.) ______________________________________ Unless they have improved the Museum of the American Indian, I would not go. It is not even close to being a major collection. |
We did the Titanic exhibity nearby on a Sunday morning and that was great
|
Have you been to the Conservatory Gardens in Central Park? The Museum of the City of NY is across from it and opens at 10. http://www.mcny.org/exhibitions/
|
Having just been there for s Sunday morning, we did the 2hour Circle Line boat tour. It follows the Hudson to the Statue of Liberty, then up the East River under the bridges to the United Nations. Nice views around lower Manhattan. The morning sun gave a nice light to the buildings.

Thanks for all the suggestions.
