Sunday Brunch Scottsdale

Will be returning to Scottsdale in late March. Looking for recommendations for Sunday Brunch in Scottsdale. Have previously booked brunch at the Terrace Dining Room at the Phoenician.

Also, I have a reservation for a Friday evening dining at L'Ecole. Has anyone dined there? Had to make the reservation 6 weeks in advance

You won't be disappointed at the Sunday brunch/Phoenician, Terrace Room. We have been here for the past 2 years during the Christmas holidays and would highly recommend it. There is so much food to eat that you will be bursting at the seams.

Francie
The Wrigley mansion has one great brunch. Need reservations though.

Phoenecian is nice.
Golden Swan at Hyatt Gainey Ranch is a nice one too.

Haven't been to L'Ecole or heard much about it. Is there a particular cuisine you are shooting for?

ciao!
snarla

Although the Phoenician is a great Sunday Brunch place, we are not planning on returning there this year. We are just looking for somewhere nice to go that offers someting on Sunday that you do not get on weekdays. When we had brunch at the Phoenician last year, we were not interested in eating for the rest of the day. We really love all the dining choices in the area and would prefer to have a great dinner in the evening.

This is what little I know of L'Ecole. It is a restaurant that is served by the students that are studying to be chiefs. The restaurant is open Monday thru Friday and the waiting list for a
Friday night is 6 weeks.

As far as what type of food we like, we are into French, and American and love eggs benedict for breakfast. We have made dinner reservations at T. Cook's, Vincent's on Camelback, Latilla at Boulders and Mary Elaine's. Also looking at Bistro 24 and Different Pointe of View as possibilities.

Does anyone have any favorites to recommend?

Brandessa,
L'Ecole finally came to mind. Yes, hubby and I have eaten at L'Ecole, Scottsdale Culinary Institute. This is the main campus of two. It is a student-run gourmet restaurant, 3***Mobile rest. Although we ate lunch here during the summer months (when reopened from vacation...as we made res weeks in advance also )the food on menu was supurb. The students are very charming and friendly and give good service. There is a dining room manager in presence that oversees all. This was a very nice experience and we would definately return again.
Another place that comes to mind..."Michael's at the Citadel" located in the Pinnacle Peak area, north of Scottsdale. Breakfast, lunch and dinner is served. Was there over the holidays and was quite pleased. You won't be disappointed here. This place is excellent for food and service. Chef Michael is one of the top chef's in the valley. (See Michel's on the internet.)
Enjoy. Francie

Brandessa,
It's me again. Just wanted to add that you have picked the top rest. in PHX/Scottsdale.
"Bistro 24" is located in the Ritz-Carlton Hotel on 24th/Camelback not too far from Vincent's. Have had Christmas tea here. "Latilla at Boulders" for Thanksgiving dinner. Nice, warm ambiance in a southwestern setting. T Cook's and Mary Elaine's are two of the most romantice dining rooms in PHX. Again, do try Michael's if you get the chance.
Francie

Vincent's on Camelback is wonderful! Try the Ocean Club at Kierland - a new seafood restaurant from the owners of Mastros - again, wonderful!

Brandessa Feb 25th, 2003 03:51 PM

Does anyone know the website for Michael's or the Ocean Club - would like to check out menus

Francie Feb 25th, 2003 05:54 PM

Dear B,

There are quite a few websites on "Michael's," but here is one that shows his menu.

http://www.michaelsrestaurant.com

Francie

Love TCooks..good choice

Here are some others:
Convivo(one of my faves)
Tarbells/Barmouche(same owner, although I think Tarbells is better)
Richardsons(BEST egg breakfasts on weekend mornings..with a sw twist)
Eddie Matney's for yummy apps before a later dinner at Bistro 24 (we've done this..it's fun. They're basically across the street from eachother)
Maxie's Grill (a nice casual lunch with great food at 40th/C'back)

I'm assuming you're going to be in the central scottsdale/c'back corridor area with the places I've listed. I have more for n. scottsdale.

You might want to do a seach on www.phoenixnewtimes.com or www.azcentral.com

ciao!
Snarla

Snara,

Yes, I would like your suggestions for N. Scottsdale, Carefree, etc. I have been to Phoenix several times, and subscribe to Phoenix Magazine to keep current on who's where. If it's not in the magazine, (and a zillion aren't), I'm not aware of them unless I happen upon them on the net. Willing to travel just about anywhere in the area for dinner. After all, it's a vacation and I don't have a schedule to keep.

kcooke Feb 26th, 2003 03:05 PM

You do realize that Carefree/N Scottsdale is about 30 mins from the Camelback area. Kierland is about 15-20 mins. However, living up here in Carefree/N Scottsdale I'm always traveling to at least the Pinnacle Peak area and south - it's well worth it.

Brandessa Feb 26th, 2003 06:42 PM

kcooke

Yes, I know Carefree is a trip. In the past, we've stayed at Boulders (because we wanted to hear the coyotes at night)and traveled south 30 to 45 minutes each night for dinner. Then I found Hermosa Inn in Paradise Valley...... All the restaurants we were driving to are now in our "back yard" The second morning we were there we followed a coyote while walking the area.

We will definately be driving to Boulder's for dinner and also checking out Carefree to see what's new. Each year we return, we are amazed at the amount of building growth north of the city. Last year, we explored the area where Troon is located - this year that area will probably be a mini-city

kcooke Feb 27th, 2003 05:26 AM

I think you'll be very surprised with how it's changed in a year. You're right, Troon has become a city of it's own. Head out toward Desert Mountain if you want to see a little sanctuary in N S'dale.
