Sunday Brunch, Pre-Matinee
I'm going to see Mama Mia. Broadway and 51st Street. Any suggestions for brunch? Nice restaurant that serves breakfast food, not lunch. Thanks.

Rock Center Cafe serves actual breakfast as well as a typical Brunch (a combination of breakfast and lunch foods). You may want to see at what hour they stop breakfast on weekends (some do only brunch after noon). |
Thalia at the corner of 50th and 8th has a nice brunch menu -- more breakfast than lunch. Look at their menu on their website: www.restaurantthalia.com

I just had pre-matinee brunch at Bryant Park Grill yesterday and it was good, service was good, setting is lovely and we had no problem getting to the curtain.
|
I, too, recommend Bryant Park Grill. In case it makes a difference, hoowever, at the corner of 5th & 42nd, it's a little over a half mile away from the theater.
|
Minor point, but isn't Bryant Park Grill closer to 40th than 42nd? Through Times Square just before matinees, I'd suggest allowing a good 20 to 25 minutes to Mama Mia, but that still gives you plenty of time to eat. I love the place, but especially in nice weather outside. Their brunch is fixed price at $26.

Well, Patrick, it's actually closer to what would be 41st, if that street ran through Bryant Park! Actually, it's closer to a 15-minute walk (knowing that a "normal" walker can cover easily cover a mile a 25-30 minutes).
|
Thanks all for the suggestions. I've been to Bryant Parkfor for both brunch and dinner. I'm really looking for a place nearer the theater. Don't mind going over to 9th Avenue.

Roberto Passon does a wonderful brunch on Sunday (9th and 50th) and it's really inexpensive. Plenty of egg or breafast choices.

Rachael Ray just LOVES Thalia. She did a show on the place and rolled her eyes to heaven when she put the French toast in her mouth. MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM MMMMMMMMMMMM!
I thought there was a man under her table. |
And there was a rousing chorus from the crowd of "I'll have what she's having"?
|
Actually, I have never seen one of her shows where she DIDN'T roll her eyes to heaven at least once. We wait for it and all vocalize with her. The cat looks at us rather strangely.
