Sunday Brunch - New Orleans - Suggestions please !?
 

We will be visiting New Orleans during early November and would appreciate suggestions for nice Sunday brunch in either hotel or restaurant. Best wishes from Scotland !

There's no contest on this: the Sunday jazz brunch at Commander's Palace. It's been famous for decades, but you need to book reservations very early as it fills up fast.

Commander's is, by far, the most famous place for brunch. I've never been disappointed there, but it is expensive and many people don't think it's worth it. I'd also recommend Palace Cafe on Canal Street which is run by the Brennan family - good food, not as pricey as Commander's. Another option is Feelings Cafe in teh 2600 block of Chartres in the Faubourg Marigny - an out-of-the-way place that isn't very touristy. Petunia's on St. Louis in the French Quarter has delicious crepes for brunch. Camelia Grill is a popular spot uptown that offers brunch - you can ride the streetcar up to the riverbend to get there. I'm sure some of the hotels have good brunches, but I'm not familiar with any of them. Please let me know if you need more info.

I vote for Commander's. <BR> <BR>House of Blues has a great gospel brunch that is very exciting although the food is not the star, the music is. <BR> <BR>Cafe Degas near the Museum of Art is outdoors (it will be beautiful weather in November) Brunch is served on both Sat and Sun. (Don't be in a hurry) <BR> <BR>Marisol's on the edge of the quarter is relatively new, and very good. It also has outdorr dining. <BR> <BR>Hotel restaurants as a rule are not as good as others....a few exceptions of course are the Grill Room (Windsor Court) Cuvvee (St. James Hotel) and the Rib Room (Royal Orleans) <BR> <BR>Camelia Grill (a famous local diner) and Petunias are very good, but very casual. <BR> <BR>Feelings has a great bar, too. Very romantic at night. <BR> <BR>Have a great time. Bon Appetit!

All are good choices! I also like Mr. Bs and Gallatoires for brunch.

The court of two sisters is a great place to go. The outdoor courtyard is a great place to soak of the sounds of New Orleans. The house band will also play wonderful dixieland jazz. The Menu is a bountiful feast.

I respectfully disagree regarding Court of Two Sisters. While the courtyard setting is very pretty, it is cafeteria-style buffet food and nothing more. You can get much better food at Mr. B's, Galatoires, Feelings Cafe, etc.

John - I totally agree about Court of Two Sisters but have reluctantly suggested it to Mr. Antony in a direct e-mail. They are interested in buffets which I am totally unfamiliar with here. Do you know of any good buffets brunches at hotels in the area that might interest him?

I can't avoid voicing an opionion about the Court of Two Sisters, which has - in my opinion - HORRIBLE food. As for buffets...although I've stayed in, and loved, the Royal Sonesta I've never had their Sunday buffet. I've heard it was wonderful.

I'm not a huge buffet fan, so this is perhaps why I don't know of any really good ones in the area. The Marriott's Riverview Room used to have one on Sundays, as did the Westin (now Wyndham) Canal Place Hotel. May be worth it to check both of these fine hotels. <BR> <BR>I DO know that the Court of Two Sisters is generally considered by locals to be a tourist trap. In fact, large tour groups are "delivered" in busses every day to the place!

I forgot...Hotel InterContinental used to have a buffet brunch several years ago. Check with this hotel as well.
