Sun Mountain Lodge, Winthrop WA
Message: Has anybody else been disappointed with Sun Mountain Lodge?
I had a few surprises during my last stay there. At breakfast on Sunday I was told that the regular menu was unavailable and that my only option was the $16.95 buffet. Later, diners at a nearby table complained about the $16.95 charge and were told that they could make one visit to the buffet for $8.95. When I reported this to the manager, he told me the one-trip visit to the buffet is an option they don?t promote. When I got home I discovered that my stay had been charged to my American Express account the day I made the reservation, although I had not been told this would be the case. It seems to have become a pretty cynical place with fabulous views. Am I wrong? Where do you like to stay and dine in the Winthrop area? |
Hmmm, sure hope it was just a "blip" for this particular visit for you!
We've done a winter family getaway there the past couple years and it's been great both times, loved the views, staff, snow. I WILL say the one meal we had in the dining room wasn't worth the $$, we preferred the informal Eagle's Nest or family chips and dips and fruit by the fire in our room-- we packed goodies and really made use of their little fridge and coffee maker in our room for winter snacks and hot cocoa. |
I like the Eagle's Nest too. We made a big mistake eating in the over-priced dining room. The Sunday breakfast at $16.95 is a joke.
What fridge do you use? The one that's filled with soda, wine, etc.? |
We stay in a Gardner room for our family of four and the room has an empty minifridge that we fill with our own brought along cheeses, fruits, milk etc and we also bring cereals, chips, dips, muffins etc and "cup o noodles' type stuff for in room "meals" so we end up only eating out once a day.

We like to stay in the town of Winthrop. The hotel Rio Vista is right on the river and is walking distance to everything in town. Our two favorite places to eat are the Duck Brand Cantina, and the Brewery.
