Summit County, CO lodging
Hi,
Can anyone recommend good, less expensive lodging in Summit County, CO ski area? We will probably have a car so nearby town instead of within a ski resort or ski town would be fine. Also considering just going to Loveland and staying in Georgetown or other nearby town. Any recommendations there? We will be going during the very popular spring break time so I need to plan early. Two adults, 1 teenager. Thanks

Last year we stayed at the Best Western Lake Dillon Lodge in Frisco. Nothing fancy, just a basic, clean hotel. The Safeway next door sold discount lift tix. The hotel has a small ski shop (rentals, tuning) and had a pool and hot tub. It was right off the highway and a quick drive to Copper, Vail, Breck, and Keystone.

We got a super condo deal at Copper towards the end of the skiing season, which for us was spring break. Of course, it snowed a lot and wasn't like spring skiing at all.

I wouldn't rent a condo from someone who blatantly ignores the no advertising/no promotion rules on a web site that does not belong to them. Go troll for your rental customers elsewhere kima, or you may find yourself the target of an e-mail campaign to Fodor's to shut down your commercials here.

Ellen - I would agree with the suggestion of staying in Dillon or Silverthorne to reduce your lodging costs. To keep your food costs lower, look into renting a 1 or 2-bedroom condo in one of those towns; that way you can eat breakfast and dinner in if you want. If you're going to make the trip to Summit County, then I would skip Loveland and Georgetown, and instead consider skiing at Cooper, Keystone, Breckenridge or Vail.

There's really no place to stay in Loveland, and Georgetown is too far away. As the other poster suggested, look in Dillon, Silverthorne or maybe Frisco. Check websites for condo rentals by owners. There's a Comfort Inn in Dillon, I think. If you can find something for $125 a night or less, it's a good price.

We just made reservations at a place called the Fireside Inn B&B in Breckenridge. We're paying $130/night during March, which I thought was a pretty good deal. It's also a hostel, so it's probably not the fanciest place, but the owner seemed very nice over the phone. It's walking distance from downtown and the shuttle bus stops right outside and takes people to the slopes.

Amy a word to the wise. I have not heard good things about the fireside in recent months. I used to receommend it but lately ppl have said that is dirty. just my 02. the rate is good though.

other places to look are summitnet.com

and skifree.org

Co Skier- Thanks for the heads up. It's too late to back out now, so I guess we'll just see how it is when we get there. Maybe I'll bring an extra pillow and sheets just in case ;)

When is Spring Break? I just booked a condo at Keystone for Feb 1-4 and got a great rate. But the following weekend was fully booked and very expensive.
|
Hi CO Skier -
I was wondering if you had an opinion on the Wedgewood Lodge in Breck? We've booked a 3 bdrm for March. I know its near the snowflake lift and seems like a good location, but haven't been able to find anyone with an opinion on the place. Thanks! Amy

Hey Amy no I have never heard of it, that does not mean anything though, not that familar with the condo complex's in Breck.
|
Thanks for the reply. We stayed about a block away from this place last time we were out, and really liked the location. The condo complex that we stayed in last time didn't have a 3 bedroom, so we switched. The web site looks good: www.tonti.com, so here's hoping! Thanks again - Amy

Ellen: I live in the area so am not that familiar with the particular lodges. However, I would agree with the posters to stay either in Frisco, Silverthorne or Dillon. Georgetown is too far and you would have to drive over a pass to get to Summit County (Keystone, Breck, A-Basin, or Copper)

Loveland is an area frequented by day skiers from Denver and not geared toward destination skiers. Less amenities. If you're traveling specifically to ski, you don't want to spend hours in the car every day to get to the resorts.

Silverthorne also has outlet stores and just put in an ice rink (haven't seen it, but its advertised constantly)

"Loveland is an area frequented by day skiers from Denver and not geared toward destination skiers." <~~~a bit from bly

Hi bly,
Thanks for your response. I'm not a Denver day skier or a destination skier this trip. We will be staying with a friend in Denver and just want to squeeze in a couple days of skiing. We were thinking of Loveland one day then overnight in Frisco, then Breckenridge for one day then back to Denver. I've been to Loveland before and to Keystone but wanted to try Breckenridge. May just skip Loveland and do 2 days Breckenridge. Thanks to all for your help. Leaning towards Best Western in Frisco. $99. was best deal I could find during spring break.
