I have stayed there twice for a month, and several other times for about a week. I wouldn't stay anywhere else in the LA area. It's not spectacular, but even the smallest rooms have a sort of "suite" feel, with a raised bedroom area, most have gas fireplaces, and lots of "extras". The daily breakfast buffet is quite good. There is gated parking below and inside with a key card access. There is a laundry room. And a small kitchenette (which I mainly have used to store some OJ and milk -- although I did do a little cooking to take to the Southern California Fodorites gathering at Art's in Long Beach). There is a rooftop pool area with a great view to downtown LA, and out to Century City or beyond (depending on the smog). I love this hotel.

Hi Patrick
Can you help m? I am considering booking a one bedroomed suite for three nights in April, however, I am confused about the condition of the rooms. I have read reviews from recent guests (see www.travelocity.com) who complain about the condition of the suites yet I read in a post of yours dating back to January 2001 that the entire hotel was being refurbished. Taking account of location, I fully agree with you that the Summerfield Suites offer excellent value for money ($139 per night for the one bedroom suite, 17th to 20th April) but I really do not want to find that the room is below standard. How recently were you last there and can you shed any light on the refurbishment program? I have emailed the hotel but as yet have received no reply. Thanks for your help.

ttt
Patrick, are you there? !!

Yep, I'm here.
I last stayed there just over a year ago and the "refurbishment" was not completed, yet I don't know what any fuss was about. Nothing in our suite was the least bit shabby or worn. I find it a great place -- maybe not as luxurious as some hotels, but everything was in top condition -- for example, no stained or worn carpet, no stained bedspreads, draperies that were not worn or hangin off the rods, etc. I've booked to stay there again this August.
