Summer Road trip
 

We are flying from Florida to New York City in mid July to pick up our daughter. We are contemplating driving back and seeing the sites along the way. The last time we did this was 14 years ago and swore never to do it again. We would like to take 9 days returning stopping in D.C., Williamsburg, The Outer Banks, Charleston S.C. and then home to Southern Florida. Does this sound doable?

Why did you swear you would never do it again - that will be helpful in formulating suggestions.

Scarlett,we did Savannah on the first trip and when I was younger I spent a week there, lovely city. I just remember it being really long and hot. We want to break the trip up with some indoor and outdoor activities. We would love to see Atlanta if possible and then a trip to the beaches where it is cooler. We have 2 kids ages 11 & 13 if that helps

mid-July hmm. DC will be very hot, hazy and humid. You are from Florida and used to heat, but strolling in DC outside in July is not comfortable. The average in July is 89, but the humidity. Eck.

Stop in Baltimore and take the kids to the National Aquarium. Appeals to all ages.

The outer banks is wonderful in mid-July. I'd spend most of the time there.

I'd save DC for a Spring or Fall trip.

Williamsburg has a Great Wolf Lodge which would be nice for the 11 & 13 year olds.

I definitely recommend a stop in the Outer Banks. It will be one of the coolest places on the coast. Always a breeze here.
