Suite in Las Vegas for Xmas

We are looking at going to Las Vegas with friends of ours at Xmas time-they have 2 kids, so need to come during the break. A couple of questions for those who have been in Vegas at Xmas:

Is it wildly expensive-are rooms really pricey in general like some of the times when there are conventions-or can you still get deals?

Has anyone ever reserved suites-we are a couple and ideally it would be fun to have a 2 bedroom suite-we have travelled before with these guys in Europe, so know each other well, so we aren't worried about getting along. But do 2 or 3 bedroom suites even exist anywhere in town? Alternatively, has anyone rented a house in Vegas before??

thanks-all info would be appreciated

I was just on E-Bay today, and they have suites for rent that you can bid on or "Buy Now"

There are one and two bedroom units at Hawthorn Suites behind the Tropicana (not the location up on Tropicana Ave). It's walking distance to several family-attraction hotels like the MGM & Excalibur (long easy walk). "Suites" however, in this case, means "apartment-like".

Vegas is usually a good value around Christmas time but very expensive around New Years. Since Christmas falls on a Thursday this year however, lots of people might be planning a long weekend there, especially Fri Sat Sun so prices might increase.

It's always going to be super cheap rates a week before xmas -- right up until christmas eve that is. After that, the rates just jump through the roof until it spikes on new years eve then another week long slump hits until CES starts up a week later.

Many of the hotels have 2 bedroom suites. Mirage tends to be fairly reasonable.

XMAS time is very cheap, beware that some shows are dark that whole week so plan accordingly.
