Suite Hotels in Washington DC

Kids are getting too big to share a double bed for more than a night or two. I am looking for a hotel in DC area that has 2 beds plus either a sofa bed or roomy enough for a rollaway. The suite type hotels are nice, however, because of the breakfast and/or kitchenette. It can be out of the capital area, as long as it's convenient to the Metro. Any ideas?

Look at Embassy Suites

One Washington Circle has suites with kitchen facilities; they also offer continental breakfast. It is located within a block of the Foggy Bottom metro station. Their internet rates are quite affordable.

We like to stay at Residence Inns and recommend the one near the Pentagon. They offer one bedroom suites and have full kitchens. They offer breakfast included in the room rate. This hotel is about a ten minute walk from the metro but they have a free shuttle to National Airport.

Also look at Capitol Hill Suites (1 block to Capitol South metro station):

There is also the Residence Inn Dupont Circle - right in town.

We really like the Embassy Suites, partly because we love big breakfasts before a day of hiking around town but also for the two TVs. The ES in Crystal City is quite a hike from the nearest Metro station, but the one in Alexandria is right across the street from the Metro. The one in Chevy Chase is literally on top of the Friendship Heights Metro station, is attached to a handy mall, AND it has some really huge corner suites.

The George Washington University Inn and the Doubletree Suites, virtually across the street from each other in Foggy Bottom. The properties are about a 2 block walk to George Washington University and the Foggy Bottom Metro station. A block or so away from the Watergate building for groceries.

In same general area there is Washington Suites Georgetown. We had a 2 double-bedded room plus totally separate LR with sofa bed, full kitchen, dining area.

I also suggest the Residence Inn Dupont Circle (about 3 blocks from the metro station). Please note that my wife and I have never stayed there, but we go to DC 2 or 3 times a year and we always stay at a hotel near Dupont Circle. There are several dozen restaurants in the area that offer numerous types of cuisine--pizza, Japanese, Thai, Italian, Greek, French, deli, American--at prices ranging from inexpensive to very expensive, plus lots of interesting shops on Connecticut Ave.

One more: The Embassy Suites Convention Center is in downtown DC and a close walk to Ford's Theater, Chinatown, and Gallery Place Metro.

We haven't been there yet, but we have a reservation at the Residence Inn in Old Alexandria for $257.00 a night for a two bedroom/living room/kitchen.

Someone on the forum who is a frequent Marriott "resident" said it's one of his favorites in the whole chain.

Good luck. This is our first vacation where the pull out sofa just won't do!
