Embassy Suites in Alexandria, VA is next to Metro and Amtrak.

Key Bridge Marriott is not a suite hotel but is also very convenient.
It is scary making reservations without being able to se where you'll be staying. Does anyone have any info of the St James Suites? Like Bob we need the kitchenette and to be close to the sites.

try one washington circle. we stayed there last summer. we have two kids, 7&14. our room had a separate bedroom & a fold out sofa bed in the living room. a full kitchen, balcony and a small outdoor pool.the metro is across the traffic circle in front of the hotel. we walked to georgetown from the hotel.

My family of 4 stayed at the Embassy Suites at 22nd St. NW. It is within walking distance of the Dupont Circle metro, Foggy Bottom metro, and Georgetown. The hotel had the usual amenities expected of an Embassy Suites, including free breakfast and swimming pool. It seemed to be in a fairly nice area. Seems like we paid around $150 per night (AAA rates?).
