Suzanne, my mom had 6 months of chemo last year and after 3 1/2 months off it we took her to the Keyes. She was still really tired, immune system down, etc. <BR><BR>I think the Alaska cruise is a great idea as it can be very relaxing.<BR><BR>Good luck to your MIL<BR><BR>Wendy

Suzanne, What a nice thing to do. When I was very sick I couldnt wait to travel again and Utah was the ticket. Utah can be wonderful, but I also have my favorite family members there and I think THAT was the ticket for making it a special trip. Maybe you could take a trip to visit other family? Also, Nantucket is just so special and nice people. Its nice in July weather wise theres a nice mix of history and beaches etc... You could rent a house out in Sconset or Madaket(beautiful sunrises) or stay in town where lodging choices abound. Ive always found it to be a very good place to rest, though July might be a little busier. <BR>All the best! :)<BR>

Perhaps California would be wonderful this time of year. Of course they aren't going to have the wildlife etc. that she may see on a cruise but it certainly has lots of natural beauty. It's hard to answer your question without knowing more about her. I think YOU are the best person to answer your own question. I was just thinking of weather and natural beauty when I suggested California. (my favorite vacation site and I live in Michigan like you)

Just wondering, after reading the cautions about supressed immune systems after chemo - would a cruise be a good idea? Many people in a smaller space...Seems more likely to &quot;catch&quot; something? I do realize one can catch anything, anywhere, depending on their hygene and those around them. Perhaps you should also talk about the idea of a cruise with the doctor as well.<BR><BR>Good luck to you.

That long after the chemo, a cruise and the flight there ought to be fairly safe. My 70+ year old parents went on the Alaska cruise and thoroughly enjoyed it. Mom still talks about things they saw.<BR><BR>The problem would be that you would have to make the reservations in advance. That wouldn't allow too much for any potential problems. What if she doesn't bounce back from the chemo very quickly?
