Suggestions on things to do around Harpers Ferry?

My sister is doing the Appalachian Trail through hike so I am going to meet her in Harpers Ferry for dinner and an overnight. She is planning on taking a Zero Day (hiking lingo for a day off) and I'm wondering what there is to do in the area? Don't want to travel too far but just wanted some ideas of something interesting (and probably not involving hiking) on her "day off". Thanks

Harpers Ferry is an interesting destination in itself. Lots of historic buildings and National Park Service exhibits to explore, some shops and restaurants. When will she reach Harpers Ferry? If the weather is warm enough, spending the day tubing on the Potomac is very popular. There are several outfitters that rent tubes and provide transportation.

Harpers Ferry has enough to occupy you for a day and, if not, Shepherdstown is just up the road- maybe a 20 minute drive. The Bavarian Inn is a wonderful place to stay and there are several good restaurants in town. German Street is fun for shopping (or window shopping) and the Rumsey Monument has a lovely view. There's also a tiny house built on Shepherd University's grounds. I can't remember it's story but it's pretty fun to look in the windows Enjoy!
