Suggestions on combining Newport with Provincetown? (need transport advice)

Hi All,
I love Newport and would like to go back this year. I would like to combine Provincetown in there as well. I'm not sure of the logic of it 'transportationwise' though. Curious if anyone has attempted such a combination? Ideally I'd like to drive to Newport, leave the car, and go for the day to Provinctown via ferry or bus. If that isn't possible then does anyone know how long it takes to get between the two places by car?

Thanks for your help.

Herre to there is not an easy option, unless you have a car!!It takes us two hours to drive to Newport, from the outer cape-not a bad drive at all. The ferry goes from Boston- and is a delightful excursion- but one must get from Newport to Boston, and that will take you about a hour and a half- .

You COULD do it by taking a Bonanza Bus from Newport to Fall River, then Fall River to Hyannis....switch to a Plymouth & Brockton bus from Hyannis to Provincetown. Round Trip bus is $57.00 and takes either 5 hours and 20 minutes or 7 hours and 20 minutes.

That being said....you can rent a car in Newport at the "Hertz Local" branch on Broadway for around $30 for a compact. Drive yourself, and enjoy the drive to/on the Cape.

Thanks for the input. Well, I was hoping to do Provincetown for the day. If we drive up (I'm sure it would be during the peak tourist season) how crazy do you think it would be (traffic, etc.) and how long do you think it would take?

Originally I was trying to avoid driving up so as not to get the crazy traffic one way road hastles....

When are you going? And what day of the week? If weekday, low season, there's hardly any traffic.

But if it's summer or holiday weekend, then it may take an hour or two just waiting to cross the bridge.

Your original post said that "you'd like to go back this year" I'm assuming by the end of 2005? If so, the heavyiest tourist season is winding down right about now...so it won't be too crazy a drive.

Expect about 2:30 - 2:45 to go from Newport to Provincetown. It's about an hour from Newport to the Cape Bridges...and then another 1:30 or so to work your way up to P-Town. If you're doing it next Summer, then times will vary.
