Suggestions for Weekend in So Cal
My husband and I will be flying down to LAX on Friday, April 29 - we have no plans for the weekend, but he has to be back in Las Angeles Sunday night for a meeting Monday bright and early. Suggestions for ways to spend our time would be appreciated - we love sunshine, relaxing, old bars and taverns, we aren't into museums, I love to run - he doesn't. We are renting a car and want to kick back relax and hopefully get some sun! Thanks in advance for your help!

I'd be hanging around Santa Monica and Venice Beach.

I'm not sure how warm it will be, but here's my suggestion:
http://www.beach-house.com/hermosa-beach-hotels.html I can't think of a nicer place to run than on the Strand in Hermosa/Manhattan Beach. He can join you on a bike or rollerblades. |
I stayed with friends in Manhattan Beach (just north of the Beachhouse in Hermosa)in January and loved it so much I'm dragging DH back in Ausgust. I loved biking the beachpath from Redondo (south of Hermosa) all the way to Santa Monica and back. I chatted with three retired teachers on a pier (I think at Redondo) who get together twice a week for cycling and then ice cream. I loved seeing strong athletic women playing volleyball midday on the beach. I loved watching kids headed to the beach in wetsuits carrying surfboards after school. I loved seeing the variety in architecture (and age) of the beach houses along the strand. Hermosa Beach and Manhattan Beach both have cute little areas of shopping, bars, and restaurants. Completely relaxing and hard to believe you are right by LA.

Laguna Beach might be another option. Lots of bars and restaurants, good hotels, beaches.
Check out the Surf & Sand Hotel right on the water, or the Ritz Carlton (Dana Point, right next to L.Beach) |
