Suggestions for Tucson
 

My husband and I will be spending a couple of days in Tucson in early Nov. Looking for suggestions of things to see, and hotel suggestions. Nothing fancy, don't plan to spend a lot of time in the room, looking for clean and reasonably priced, chains are fine, but want to be in a nice area.

Try Windmill Inn in St. Philip's Plaza, very nice and great location. Daniel's for dinner was wonderful.

We got a great Internet rate at the Doubletree near Reid Park last April. A very good breakfast buffet was included. Nice pool and jacuzzi, rooms ok, but nothing out of the ordinary. Their best features are being convenient to all parts of town, sitting across from a golf course, park and zoo, and a HUGE lawn in the courtyard. After a day in the desert atmosphere, that green grass was so nice to see! <BR> <BR>We enjoyed Sabino Canyon, and Kartchner Caverns. Call the Park Service well in advance to get reservations for Kartchner, or else you'll have to get there at dawn for the few tickets they sell on a daily basis.

Highly recommend trips (short) out of town to see Mission de San Javier del Bac, Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum, and Old Tucson. (The museum and Old Tucson are very close to one another.) All are well worth the time and $$ you will spend.

Yes! to the Mission. And add a drive through Saguaro National Forest with a stop at the Visitor Station (in the area of the Desert Museum). If you are into photography, be aware that the University of Arizona houses an extensive collect of Ansel Adams original works. Very easy to find.

Hotel rates are higher in Nov. as it is part of the "high season" here. The Windmill at St. Phillip's Plaza is nice, all two room suites, we use it a lot for guests that visit our office, they all like it a lot. The Sheraton on Grant Road is also quite nice, our guests give it high marks as well. The Best Western Inn Suites on Oracle Road is also pleasant. Relatives have stayed there -- there is also a Hampton Inn on Oracle Road. These last two are north of the Tucson Mall. Visit the Desert Museum, Mt. Lemmon, the Mission, Sabino Canyon - for a day trip go down to Tombstone and Bisbee.
