Smoky Mts. and Gatlinburg

Hi
Looking at end of March - most interested in Smoky Mts and outdoor activities. Looks like 60s that time of year. Anyone who has actually been there that time of year I'd like your input.

Thank you!

Could be a LOT colder than that. bypass Gatlinburg, except for travel if you must.

We were there in mid-march and it was cold in the mornings usually around 40 degrees but sunny and warmed to low 50's during the day. There was also patchy snow on the trails in the higher elevation on Newfound Gap Road. Trails in the lower part of the park were fine. Waterfalls were beautiful that time of year from the winter runoff and spring rain. We found a trail less traveled with spectacular waterfalls:

We've been to the Smokies just about every month of the year and love it.

We are not high on Gatlinburg either because during peak season and weekends it is VERY crowded and has lots of traffic. But it does have plenty of hotels and restaurants to choose from. If you'd rather have a nature experience, check out Townsend, the quiet side of the Smokies. Hotel selection is not great, so we always get a cabin. We've always had good luck with Dogwood Realty and Townsend View Cabins.

I have to go there every year for work in early March and it is cold!!! Suggest layers. The town is hokey but the mountains are gorgeous.
