Suggestions for post theater dining in Manhatten
 

We are going to see South Pacific at the Lincoln Center in November. I would appreciate any restaurant recommendations for after the show, preferably within walking distance. Thanks

We Fodorites generally find it easier to be helpful if you give us a price range and what kind of cuisine you like.

One place to check out, would be Yakitori Totto, which is on 55th just east of 8th Ave. Their specialty (as you might guess by the name) is grilled skewers of meat and vegetables, but they also have some more traditional japanese dishes. It's open late.

South Pacific is playing at Lincoln Center so not near the typical theater district restaurants. It's a 3 hr. show so if you're going to an evening performance at 8, you won't be eating til 11. Is that ok? If yes, Josephina is across the street and serves til midnight and Cafe Luxembourg is not far from Lincoln Center and also serves til midnight.

What do you consider "walking distance"?

Shun Lee - excellent Chinese - is open until midnight and Cafe Fiorello is open until 1 am. Both are just a couple of blocks from LC.

Actually, Cafe Fiorello is right across the street from Lincoln Center, as is Josephina. Both are recommended as is Shun Lee, one NYC's best Chinese restaurants.

Shun Lee Cafe is adjacent to the restaurant and much more moderate in price than the restaurant if that matters to you. You can do a dinner of dim sum or a few plus a main dish. Their steamed dumplings are very good.

I consider Lincoln Center as having a pretty limited choice of restaurants. The ones already mentioned are reasonably good, but why limit yourself to the immediate area around LC?

If your "walking distance" range includes the area around Carnegie Hall, at 57th and Seventh, or perhaps a few blocks farther, there are many choices in the CH vicinity:

Part of the same restaurant group as Café Fiorello (The Fireman Group) is Trattoria dell'Arte on Seventh between 56th and 57th. Estiatorio Milos on 55th between Sixth and Seventh is an excellent seafooder. Beacon, on 56th, is also quite good.

There's so much broader a variety of restaurants near Carnegie Hall than around Lincoln Center that you should consider expanding your post-theater horizons a bit.

Actually, there are several other good places near LC, aside from the excellent suggestions made by mclaurie, CPG, Howard et al. Bar Boulud is very good, wonderful wines, charcuterie, and terrific cheeses - it's across Broadway from LC. Gabriel's is an excellent Tuscan restaurant down on Bway and 60th St - certainly w/in your walking distance. And it's not fancy, but O'Neals is actually very reliable, not expensive and if you stick to the simpler items like salads, burgers and grilled fish, it can be quite good.

Not sure if you're looking to eat a big meal at 11PM, but you might also check out bar snacks at Rosa Mexicano, or the wine bar, Bin 71 on 70th and Columbus.

Many more choices in Midtown West (walking distance from LC) than near LC.

Bspielman, your info about Bar Boulud and Gabriel's isn't accurate. Both accept reservations until 12.
