Suggestions for Nicer Accomodations on Maui, Kauai and BI for 5 people

We are definately going to Kauai but still deciding between Maui (been there twice) and BI (never been there) and need accomodations that will hold 5 people. I prefer upscale places that are clean. Don't prefer crowded areas. Desire a nice pool and good views. Prices up to 500 a night. Suggestions?

Hi Ashley,

I can't recommend anything on the BI as I've never been there. However, as for Maui you may want to consider the Kea Lani in the Wailea area - they have huge rooms/bathrooms and it's one of the three main upscale resorts in the Wailea area (Four Seasons and Grand Wailea being the other two) - there are other resorts in the Wailea area as well, but I'm not as familiar with them. If you're, instead, interested in staying in the Kaanapali area of Maui (more crowded than Wailea) you may want to consider a suite at either the Hyatt or Sheraton. Or if you're interested in a condo the Kaanapali Alii on Kaanapalli Beach is considered "upscale" for a condo. Another condo also on Kaanapali beach is the Whaler - more affordable than the Kaanapali Alii.

I suspect if you want to be comfortable with 5 people you're going to probably have to splurge for a suite or rent a condo.

Have fun!

Tracey

I tried the Kea Lani but they only allow 4 people in their rooms. I have stayed in Wailea before and really like that area better than Kaanapalli. Thanks for your ideas.

Aloha Ashley,
I can't imagine that you'll find anything, hotel or condo, to accomodate 5 comfortably in that range. Why don't you just get 2 adjoining rooms, or condos? You should be able to find something in the $250 range per night for each. ((R))

Just checked Whalers Cove on Kauai... units are 2 BR 2 BT w/ a max of 6 occ.
Do you have 5 adults, or are some of your party children that could sleep on a sofa bed?

I am going to be staying at the Westin Maui. All reports say it is just great.

We have 3 adults and 2 children. Have you stayed at the Whaler before? Do they have a nice pool?

Aloha Ashley,

A 2 BR w/ a sofa sleeper would work perfect for you.

I have not stayed at Whalers Cove, but would love to if it were in my price range. The property is stunning. Do a search on this forum and you'll find a ton of info. Also, check tripadvisor.com reviews on the property. I've heard that building one is the closest to the ocean... building 2 is set back and overlooks the pool. Check out suite-paradise.com.

On Maui, I have friends who stay at the Aston Maui Kaanapali Villas. They prefer upscale and love it here... they return year after year for the 2 BR villa suite. I'm not sure if this is what you're looking for, but they have a web cam of the pool area on the Aston website.

Happy planning. ((R))

We stayed at Makena Surf Condos on Maui ... it was wonderful ... two pools on the property, pretty beach and glorious views. We booked through Destination Resorts Hawaii who provided exceptional service. You can check it out at www.drhmaui.com

Kiahuna Plantation has units that will accomodate your specs. Great beach for kids. The Kiahuna pool was just re-done. It is next to the tennis courts across the street from the main property, but it is a short walk (or drive)
Go to Kiahunabeachside.com where you can see the oceanfront units (inside and out) and rates and availability. If you are going this summer chances are the units you like are booked, but you never know.
Whalers Cove is nice, but does not have a beach that is easy to access, it sits up on a rocky point.
Aloha
