Suggestions for Mexico information travel books

If you've read my earlier posts, you know we are taking a Mexican Riviera cruise in March. I love to buy travel books before we go that have detailed information on things to do & see. Eyewitness books are usually my first choice. Can anyone suggest your best choice of books for information on Puerto Vallarta, Mazatlan and Cabo San Lucas. I know we only have one day in each port, but still like to know as much about each place as I can learn. I asked the cruise line for something, got nothing! Thanks.

Honestly, the best "book" I used for the Mayan Riviera is this map. I'm not kidding. It has the best insider tips for beaches, restaurants, parks, historical sites, undiscovered cenotes, etc. Take a look.

For Puerto Vallarta area, I like Moon Handbooks publication "Puerto Vallarta and 300 miles of coast..." by Bruce Whipperman. I've been to PV 16 times so far, and find his information very accurate and helpful.

I bought 3 different books on Mazatlan sight-unseen from amazon.com but none of them are very good unfortunately.

I am guessing if Moon Handbooks covers either, these would be great for the other locations as well.

You can get a lot of information at www.fodors.com and www.frommers.com by clicking "Destinations."

Love lunch at the Shrimp Bucket in downtown Mazatlan.Good and inexpensive and casual.

I think guidebooks would serve better than the internet in this situation, because Payton_Grandma is interested in reading about the history of the cities, and things like that. Not necessarily finding a hotel or restaurant. The Moon Handbook series has excellent sections telling all about history, geography, weather, culture, etc.

Thanks Suze... I will check out Moon books... where is the best place to purchase? Does amazon.com have them?
I'll check it out this weekend.
Thanks again to all who posted a reply. MUCH appreciated.

I am a fan of Fodors and Frommers. Whenever I travel, I buy one of each. For a more picturesque view, I always get The National Geographic Traveller if they have it for my destination. I have always found that Fodors is usually pretty exact with what they say in their commentaries. I trust their judgment.

agree w/bardo. If you're going to the Riviera Maya area, you can't beat the cancunmap, or mapchick.com. I like Fodors books, too.
