suggestions for Maui & Big Island with a Toddler

We're traveling to hawaii late jan/early feb for 2 weeks. We'll be spending 6 nights on maui & 7 nights on big island. we arrive to maui at 9 pm after a full day of traveling, so that night we will just be checking in & going to sleep. Our daughter will be almost 4 at the time of our trip & is used to vacations where she gets to do a little hiking & spends some time riding in a "pouch" (ergo) or backpack.

we've booked our condo for maui, but are still trying to figure out where to stay while on big island. we'll be flying out of kona, but haven't booked our inter-island flight yet.

thanks for any suggestions!

Kohala area is great, lots of condos, shops for food, restaurants, great beach at A' Bay.

I agree with DebitNM. Kohala. So many great beaches there for your family and not prone to vog like further south in the Kona District. There are tons of condos in the Kohala District that would work great. Look in the Waikoloa Beach Resort area as well as near the Mauna Lani resort. Some of the great beaches there to explore include Kuana'oa, Hapuna, Kukio, Waialea....Have a great time.

I agree, you'll want something in the Kohala Coast area to be near beaches. If you plan to see the volcano, plan an overnight there. It's too far to go there and come back within daylight, and you don't want to drive Big Island at night. See if you can fly into KOA and out of ITO -- or the reverse. *I* would plan a trip to Big Island when your child is much older -- unless you plan on staying put in Kohala area.
