Suggestions for Late October travel
 

Looking for ideas of places to go in US/North America for one to two weeks. Thinking about the last week in October and first week in November.

My wife and I are roaming vacationers, prefering to drive around to visit various places. Definitely not resort type people.

Have done the California coast trip, which was memorable and special. Not sure if the Northeast, Northwest or Quebec/Ontario will be too cold by then.

Any ideas are greatly appreciated.

The Florida Keys.

Southern Utah. Fly into Vegas and head to Zion (3 hour drive) then on to Bryce, Capitol Reef N.P., Then on to Moab for Arches N.P., Canyonlands N.P.
Drop down to Monument Vally for a night. Grand Canyon North Rim for a night then back to Vegas for the flight out.
This is easy for me since it is the trip we have plannerd for late September. We went last year for a week to "explore" and are returing for 12 days to dig deeper into the places we like the best. I'm sure a longer trip would be even better. We encountered lots of Brits there last September...in fact, there were more "non Americans" at all the National Parks than Americans. It makes sense since most folks have kids that have returned to school by then making this the best time to visit for us and, we gather, childless Europeans. Plus the dangerous heat of summer is over by then.

I feel like an amateur after the above NPS suggestion but...Consider flying into the cheapest airport south of DC,(Richmond/Norfolk,etc), drive to Williamsburg, east to Norfolk,down the Outer Banks, ferry to the NC mainland,Rte 17S thru Myrtle Beach,Charleston,Parris Island,Hilton Head,Savannah and back up I95.It feels like cheating but look at the Itinerary from American Cruise Lines for the best seaside towns in the (northern) SE US.

Peter, the pictures look great. Unfortunately, may be a little too rustic for my wife.

As for the Keys, an interesting suggestion considering our anniversary is on Halloween. Is there enough to do for 6 to 8 days of driving around?

The atlantic Coast trip sounds interesting. We like visiting museums and other points of interest (the best was a blown glass manufacturer), roaming through scenic countryside, picnics and eating at unique places.

Wondered about Oregon because we like visiting wineries as well.
