Suggestions for great meals in Vegas?
Me and my appetite are going to Vegas looking for some great meals. Anyone been to the restaurant Napa? How about Delmonico's? Any suggestions for really good food are appreciated.

Hi Sam! - I LOVE Vegas. There are tons of top notch restaurants in Vegas, although, unfortunately, I have not had the pleasure of frequenting many. What I can tell you are some of my personal favorites:
1) - If you are a meat eater - Lawry's the Rib is awesome. Prepare yourself for a big slab of prime rib (brought to your table in a big silver cart and carved right in front of you) and some yorkshire pudding. - For those of you not familiar with this dish, it is basically puff pastries made with the drippings from the roast. - Yumm!
2) There is Emeril's in MGM - cajun flare, great seafood.
3) Mandalay Bay has some great restaurants and is a great hotel to spend some time in. - They also have what I consider the best buffet in Vegas. Go either for dinner or Sunday brunch. They have a seafood buffet with 3 different types of crab legs, shrimp, etc. - Great food - much better than the Rio.

There's my two cents. Hope that helps.

Hi Sam -

As for buffets, the best on the strip is not Mandalay in my opinion. We go to Vegas 6-8 times per year and Bellagio weekend brunch and dinner buffet at the Paris are best.

As for good restaurants, Emeril's at MGM is pretty good but not our favorite. For an excellent gourmet meal try Drai's at the Barbary Coast. I know, the Barbary coast is a dump. However, in the basement, there is one of the best kept secrets in Vegas.

Another good one is Andre's French Restaurant at the Monte Carlo.

The Venetian has some great restaurants. Our favorites here (that we've tried so far) are Pinot Brasserie and Postrio. Caneletto is also decent. We haven't tried Delmonico's yet.

The Eiffel Tower restaurant at Paris is good, but I think not as good as other fancy French restaurants I've tried around the world. I would skip it. Lots of other great places to try first without spending $200.

Our favorite food at the Paris is Mon Ami Gabi. This is the bistro/cafe that has seating right on the strip. The bread and escargot are to die for. The steaks are very good and the chocolate mousse and creme brulee are right on the money. And I eat creme brulee everywhere. From Los Angeles to Hong Kong. The creme brulee at Mon Ami is excellent.

Let me know if you have any questions. I love talking about food!

I leave on vacation for 3 weeks Nov. 14th. But you can email me before the 12th and I'll still have time to get back to you.

Lynn

:-)

I live part time in Vegas and it has become an absolutely amazing restaurant city. I can't argue with Lynn's comments. I think Bellagio buffet is the best. If you get up towards Summerlin, The Regent also has a very good buffet. But there's so much more now than buffets.

Mon Ami Gabi is good. For a big occasion, Le Cirque in the Bellagio is tops. I hear Drai's is terrific. Haven't been (except to the L.A. location when it was open), but I hear only good things. I like the Samba Grill in the Mirage for Brazilian all-you-can eat rotisserie meat (much better, I thought, than rumjungle at Mandalay Bay which is the same type of cuisine). I think Picasso is overrated. Also tried Aureole at Mandalay Bay and was not thrilled. The Palm in the Forum Shops at Caesar's is consistently excellent. I also like Emeril's at the MGM. The Brown Derby there was fun for drinks and appetizers. Kokomo's at the Mirage is good for steaks/seafood. Commander's Palace is opening at the Aladdin and if it's anything like the original in New Orleans, is not to be missed! There's also Gallagher's at the New York, New York for steaks. By the way, Il Fornaio there is a good Italian place. You know, there are so many terrific restaurants now, it's impossible to go through them all! If you're at the Rio, you might want to go to the top to the Cajun place (forget the name) for a drink but not necessarily the food. I believe it's on the 51st floor (and you can walk outside!). What a view! Have fun and take something with you for indigestion!!

hi Sam,
The place at the top of the Rio is the Voodoo Lounge and is great!! There is a 10 dollar cover after 8pm. The view is spectacular (sp) and the drink to get is called Just What the Witch Doctor Ordered. Don't ask, just drink
Picasso in the Bellagio is supposed to be one of the best restaurants in Vegas. I haven't eaten there yet, but plan to in February. La Rotisserie Des Artistes in Paris was excellent, and I plan to eat there again in February. Mon Ami Gabi was very good, I would recommend it, also great views of the Bellagio fountains. Stay away from the restaurant in Paris with the singing and dancing waiters. The food was terrible and the service was worse. Il Fornai in NYNY was good basic Italian food, but if you want real basic with a good time try Battista's Hole in the Wall across the street from Bally's. In a rather run down looking strip mall, but has been there forever. I also recommend The Buccaneer Bay Club in Treasure Island, Renoir in Mirage, Aureole in Mandalay Bay (awesome), Circo in Bellagio, and Emerils in MGM. Have a great time.

I have been to Napa and it is arguably the best restaurant in Vegas with a nationally renowned chef. Be forewarned that Napa is very pricey. If you have specific questions, please let me know. It is kind of strange to find such an exclusive restaurant in the Rio, and I think that is why a lot of people have not heard of it.

Delmonicos not even in the same league, and gets mixed reviews. I have not been there myself.

I ate at Napa last February. I have to admit I was a little disappointed if this is considered the 'best' restaurant in Vegas. While I thought the wine list was outstanding, I thought the food was average. Off nite?

Hey, I just found this on Gourmet magazine website:

TOP RESTAURANTS IN VEGAS FOR 2000

Napa
Rio All-Suite Casino Resort
3700 West Flamingo Road
(702) 247-7923

Le Cirque
Bellagio Hotel
3600 Las Vegas Blvd. South
(702) 693-8100

Picasso
Bellagio Hotel
3600 Las Vegas Blvd. South
(702) 693-7223

Lotus of Siam
953 East Sahara Avenue
(702) 735-3033

Renoir
Mirage Hotel
3400 Las Vegas Blvd. South
(888) 777-7552
Lotus of Siam is said to be one of the best Thai restaurants in the US.

Another vote for Le Cirque in the Bellagio. Ate there last week and it was fantastic!
|
Ate at Delmonico's about a year ago and it was fantastic. We had steaks and my husband said it was the best steak he had ever eaten. It was pricey (like all of the steak places these days) but worth it. The only complaint was that the waiter hovered a little too much.

BELLAGIO BELLAGIO BELLAGIO

Went to Vegas to get married 2 years ago and stayed at the Bellagio, went to several restaurants and buffets, and just kept coming back to the Bellagio buffet. You'll never see anything like it in your life, and everything we ate was so incredibly good. My husband and I both said next time we go back we stick to the bufffet there, and thats it. Enjoy

Ate at Delmonico's just last week. Good steak, stuffy somewhat sterile atmosphere. 3 stars out of 5. Enjoyed Aureole at the Mandalay much more.

In the past 16 years I have gone with my husband and 2 children to Vegas around 4 times with each visit we always made it a point to dine at Caesar's Palace Court. It is extremely pricey but great service and so Vegas with Photos and atmosphere. The last visit was in March with my husband, daughter and her fiancee. We all loved it!! It is timeless!!

Here's my two cents. Just got back on Nov. 4 from 8 days in Vegas. I will preface this by saying I am not related to Wolfgang Puck. We ate in 3 of his restaurants: Spago, Chinois and Postrio and thought they were all very good. Especially liked Postrio in the Venetian Hotel and Chinois in the Forum Shops. The service we had at Postrio was excellent.

Aureole at Mandalay Bay was by far the most expensive and I found the atmosphere to be kind of offputting - that whole wine fairy thing is blown way out of proportion - who cares. My food was good, especially the scallop appetizer. I am from Canada and US$90 per person before wine is pretty steep.

Another good seafood restaurant that we went to last year and this year is McCormick & Schmicks at the Hughes Centre. The seafood is very good and they have an excellent selection of raw oysters, if you like that sort of thing.

We were staying at Treasure Island this year and as we ate at Francesco's last year when we were staying at the Luxor and it was good, we thought we'd try it again this year and as always seems to happen, it was not good. Two of us had the seafood stew and two of us the scampi. The scampi (large prawns to us in Canada) were very iodiney and the stews were bland.
