Suggestions for Georgia coast in late Oct/Nov?
 

I'm looking for suggestions on where to stay on the Georgia coast for a long weekend in late October or early November. We have 2 small kids ( 1 1/2 and 3 1/2). We aren't looking for a "basking in the sun" trip, but one where the kids can run around on the beach, play in the sand and maybe get in the water if isn't not too cold. An area with kid friendly restaurants, maybe even a park nearby, would be a big plus. Two of our favorite locations elsewhere have been Seabrook/Kiawah SC (not so kid dining friendly though) and Seaside, FL. We prefer quaint and natural to built up. We like smaller villa style rentals over large condos, but location and price is as important (heated pool may be nice given the time of year too). We're coming by way of central Kentucky so any suggestions along the way would be great. Thanks.

Jekyll Island comes to mind. Families tend to like what is now called the Oceanside Inn and Suites. (almost) all rooms face the ocean with a grassy lawn for the kids to play between your sliding door and the ocean. Some rooms have kitchettes with 2 beds. There are other rental options, but I go back to this hotel year after year.

Nothing fancy - nor is the island - but good for what you are describing.

My 3 1/2 year old guest felt like a princess during the carriage ride through the old Jekyll Island Club and the area where millionaires first built homes.

Consider Hilton Head Island, most of which is quaint off-season like this. Technically, you could at least see GA.

Jekyll is a good suggestion. If you are willing to drive a little bit farther, I think you would also like Amelia Island (near the GA/FL border).

Hilton Head is totally built up. It's far from "quaint and natural".

I love St. Simons. It is a lovely place on the Georgia coast for a vacation.
