Suggestions for dinner on last night on Maui

Can anyone please suggest a place for a nice dinner on our last night in Maui? We have a flight out at 10:00 p.m., and we'd like a nice meal prior to the long overnight flight.

We will have already covered Nick's, Mama's Fish House, and Cafe Ciao. We are staying in Wailea, so anything in that area will be ideal. (We thought about Humuhumu as we are staying at the Grand Wailea, but the reviews have been so poor lately, we decided to skip.)

Thanks,
Chels

Oh, yes - almost forgot... Someone recommended the Prime Rib and Seafood Buffet at the Maui Prince for our last night (a Friday night). Any comments on this buffet?

Thanks again!

Hi Chels,

I hesitate to recommend because it has been a couple of years, but I had a wonderful dinner at the Kea Lani on their terrace. Hopefully, you can get an updated review.

I'd head to Hoopika Beach. Then head north for some last minute strolling in Makawao and then dine at Bev Gannon's Haillimaile General Store. Order the sashimi nepolean tower!!!!!! YUMMMMMM!

We weren't too impressed with the bufffet at the Maui Prince when we were there 2 yrs. ago. Even with an Entertainment coupon we didn't think it was worth the price.
Have you been to Roy's Kihei? We loved it; in fact, we had dinner there twice.

Don't know if you'd be willing to head to Lahaina on your last night, but David Paul's was exceptional!

David Pauls was my favorite!

What month?? I recommend Feast at Lele right on the beach in Lahaina. GREAT food (by the same chef as Pacific O) private tables with candlelight,m oln the beach, great entertainment You could call and ask what time it ends. to make sure you have time to get to the airport by 8:45. pm. I think you would, as it starts before sunset--surrenlty starts at 6 pm.
They have a website and it's even beter tahn waht's described there. What an event foryour last night's memories!

This is another question, implicit in my post, earlier today, regarding our upcoming (January) trip. One kicker is that we will have 6:55 to 11:02 pm to get from the airport to the restaurant, and return in time for our flight (we will have checked all our bags already).

Maybe humuhumu is one of our leading choices, based on location?

Other suggestions most welcome.

Best wishes,

Rex

gyppie is right! Haillimaile General Store is the best! Even though it has been many years I still have very fond memories of my meals there on my last trip to Maui. It's where I would eat ALL my meals! :S-

Don't know if that was directed to me or not, Bill/iamq - - but I had overlooked Hali'imaile General Store because the descriptive blurb on Jon's Maui site made it sound too distant - - but actually not bad from the airport at all - - no further than Humuhumu/Grand Wailea - - and just now noticed the comment about recent less favorable reviews.

Cetainly the Bev Gannon website paints a pretty picture!

Anyone have recent info on Humuhumu - - is it true that the place may have slipped?

Does mauihawaii.org (Jon's site) have a forum or any way to ask for more current info?

rex,

Actually it was not, as I posted before I read your post, BUT I think it would be doable.

My recomendation on Hailimaille is based on a two time visit two weeks ago......nuff said!

Thank you for all the suggestions! I am still trying to decide, and I am investigating some of the restaurants that I had not read about in my guidebooks.

CaliNurse, I was glad to see your recommendation for The Feast at LeLe since we had already booked the Luau there for a night earlier in our trip.

We leave this Friday for Hawaii - I'll post when I return.

Thanks again,
Chels

I would go to David Paul's. We had a wonderful dinner there and it's on my top restuarants we've had dinner at.

We have had that late flight out two years in a row and have really enjoyed the Manana Garage. Very cute spot-latin American food, close to airport, so we zip out, check in, check luggage, beg for exit rows then take the short drive to Manana Garage (I bought the tee shirt too) and relax knowing it's a short drive and we can linger at dinner.

If you are staying Wailea, you could make an early dinner reservation at Sarento's in Wailea. We have had a number of wonderful meals there - ask for an oceanview table. The food is delicious! Stay away from Humu...

Update on my original response - I said David Pauls, but if you want the quintessential maui dinner, meaning good food and sunset, consider Pacific-O. Outstanding presentation and setting, very good food, stunning sunset. Food at DP is probably better, but the setting at Pacific-O's is the best.
